A Wrinkle in Time Trilogy | Madeleine L'Engle

All in all I honestly liked the movie more than the book (first time I ever said that). But I feel like for me the book was so hard to picture, and the movie made it so much easier. If it were me I think I would probably show the movie in my class first and than read the book for the students to compare so they can have a better mental image of what they are reading.

Where the Wild Things Are is a first thought book when I think of children‘s books. It has probably been everyone‘s favorite book at some point in their life! It is about a little boy named Max whose bedroom magically transforms into a jungle where he sails to an island and meet the Wild Things! Falling up is my favorite poetry book ever! I remember being in the second grade and discovering it in my teacher‘s library. I loved the silly poems and pictures. I was knew to that school and whenever I felt lonely or had no one to talk to I would read that book and cheer up! My mom eventually bought it for me for Christmas. This book is very near and dear to my heart and I still read it to this day when I get stressed out- therefore I will 100%

Jack and the Beanstalk by Jane Jerrad is my favorite TL story of all time. I did this for my storytelling assignment which shows that is makes for a great DR. Some other TS are RA, PR, GR, and S. UDL:2.5 to show through a cartoon or through DR like I did in class. EL #6 monitor student‘s comprehension. Don‘t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus is a hilarious F book that will make any student or adult laugh. It is a feel good book that as a teacher I would probably read on a fun Friday or at the end of the day when we have five minutes left. We all need those fun books in our classroom! Because of Winn-Dixie is a wonderful RF book about family, love, and companionship. This is a adoring and relatable book that many children will find hard to put down! (I know I did when I was younger). I recommend this book for all classroom libraries. TS- RA, LC, IR, SR, PR. UDL: 5.1- multiple media for communication. The Ugly Duckling by Jerry Pinkney is an adaptation of the classic by Hans Christian Andersen. It is a story of an Ugly Duck born who does not quit fit in. I feel many students may find this book relatable, I know I did when I was in elementary school. This is a wonderful story to have in any classroom. TS- RA, S, IR, PR, DR. A Wrinkle in Time is an exciting book about adventure, friendship, and of course family. It is an exciting science fiction book that will give students a combination of science and a cool fantasy world! Bridge to Terabithia is a book that incorporates friendship, adventure, and lost. All in which are things children will experience so it is a great book to read in class for TS such as PR, LC, RA, SR, and IR. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is about 4 siblings who step through a wardrobe and into the fantasy land of Narnia. Here they encounter friends, enemies, and of course adventure. This book is full of great vocabulary and critical thinking. It is a good discussion book for the classroom. NicoleCumbo I‘ve never actually read this book, but I have seen the movie and absolutely love it! I can only imagine the imagery in the book, and I love that you wrote that you can show the movie in the classroom to compare it to the novel. That would allow for multiple media strategies to be incorporated into the classroom. 7y
ambera I first read this book in 4th grade! Once we finished reading our teacher had us watch an older version of the film. While we watched the movie we drank tea with "Mr.Tumnus" 7y

As I first started reading a Wrinkle in Time my first thought was “this is sort of confusing”. I think this book from what I have read so far would be especially hard to read to and EL student. You would really need to do background knowledge on tesseracts and space and time and fantasy and science fiction. This book can easily confuse young ones and ELs but I think for a middle school class this is perfect!

The Giving Tree is a great book for any age! It teaches how far love can take us and what we do to make people happy! This book is F because a tree cannot really do all of those things for the boy. Teaching strategies I could use are RA, S, AS, IR, and PR. UDL: 2.1 students clarify the symbol of the tree as unconditional love. I could use EL 14 so EL learners can follow along with the book more effectively.

paulettevp You mentioned that the students can clarify the symbol of love as a UDL strategy which I think is wonderful. You could also make it into a classroom discussion where students compare their own experiences with the giving tree. It‘s just one of the books that teaches life lessons in a beautiful kid friendly way. 7y
