I haven‘t been following many graphic novels lately, so I hadn‘t heard of this before I saw it featured on a Made in Michigan shelf at the bookstore. The next time I was at the library I decided to check it out, and I immediately fell in love. Abbott is a fantastic character, the detective/horror story is gripping, the 1972 Detroit setting is perfect for its themes, the illustrations are consistently great and THOSE COLORS! SO GORGEOUS!

Every once in a while I ask my oldest kid to recommend a book to me. Turns out he‘s salty that I haven‘t finished reading the Percy Jackson series. So, book three it was! As always, I found the “jump straight into the action” opening a little jarring, but I enjoyed it overall. My favorite part was probably Artemis revealing that she turns boys who trespass in her camp into jackalopes. I have a strange weakness for jackalopes.

I haven‘t read this book yet, but I have made a pair of earrings to match the cover! It‘s gotten good reviews, so it‘s definitely high in my March TBR!

I made earrings to match the cover of Notes of a Crocodile because its sunny, citrusy color scheme was making me happy when I was trapped in the house with my kids after multiple snow, cold, and ice days. I‘ve heard very mixed reviews in this book. Have you read it? What did you think?

Just started this collection of poetry from one of my favorite micro presses, Sator Press, and I think I‘m in love.

Currently cuddled up on the couch with A Winter Book. Loving it so far!

Okay, well, #24in48 is over, and I just made my modest goal of 14 hours, which I am happy enough about. I only have 13 hours, 48 minutes “on the clock,” but then I realized that I failed to count the time I read bedtime stories to the kids, which was 30-40 minutes-ish. I FAILED to finish A Conspiracy of Truths because my reading today was slow and distracted, but I certainly made way more progress than I would have without the Readathon. So, yay!

Okay, well I only got 6 hours in yesterday for #24in48, because of my husband‘s big work party, but I‘m up with my tea ready to go for day 2! I should be kid-free most of the day, so I‘m aiming for at least eight more hours. We‘ll see!

About five hours in to #24in48, and I‘ve finished How to Survive a Plague. I loved it so much. Full of rage, sadness, relief, and even joy, I was moved to tears more than once. A moving account of tragic period in history that has so much to teach us for today.

I love this opening quote from How to Survive a Plague. Paul Monette‘s Becoming a Man made a huge impact on me as a young woman, and I have loved him ever since.

My #24in48 Readathon TBR. Absurd, I know, and not how I would normally rock a Readathon TBR, but I kind of decided to try this Readathon our last second when I found out I‘d have unexpected childfree time this weekend. I also have a lot of plans this weekend, so I don‘t expect to make 24 hours, but I‘m looking forward to concentrated reading time. Two of these books are monsters I‘ve been reading awhile and need to finish, the other is due soon!

Since I‘m still kinda new here and keep meaning to do some sort of introductory post, this seemed like a good moment to do that! Here‘s my #20thingsaboutme. Hopefully I didn‘t get too deep in the weeds.

It was actually my thirteen-year-old son who picked this up from the library, but it looked so good that I disregarded my queue and picked it up the second he was done with it. I don‘t normally like short story collections, or read much crime fiction, but I am LOVING this so far.

When you take your kids to the library and shouldn‘t be looking for books for yourself because your stack of checked out books at home is already too tall to possibly read them all before you have to take them back and.... ooops.

So..... did I mention that I‘m also a beader? Not long ago I started a project to make earrings to coordinate with beautiful book covers! I just finished this pair this weekend and am very pleased with them. 😁

Have you ever liked an author so much that you were nervous to read their book? A friend commissioned me to make a pair of earrings to match this book cover to give the author as a gift. As a result, I ended up following Rowland on twitter and her podcast. I have a massive girl crush now, but the book isn‘t my normal pick, and what if I don‘t like it? Reassure me, please!

When you finally read a book that has gotten ALL THE HYPE and you find it deserved every word of it. I finished reading this and IMMEDIATELY put it into the hands of my thirteen year old and said READ THIS.

Sure, this is a week late, and I‘ve already finished reading one of the books in this stack, but I‘ve had kids under foot and was waiting for holds to come in at the library. Anyway, here is my January TBR pile. Do any of you make monthly TBR stacks? I started last fall, and while it took me a few months to make this practice mine, now I really like it.
