Grace is fascinated by the wolves in the woods behind her house; one yellow-eyed wolf in particular. Every winter, she watches him, but every summer, he disappears. Sam leads two lives. In winter, he stays in the frozen woods, with the protection of the pack. In summer, he has a few precious months to be human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again. When Grace and Sam finally meet, they realize they can't bear to be apart. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human - or risk losing himself, and Grace, for ever.

#QuotsyOct19 - Shiver: Shiver was my most deft performance on Guitar Hero so I always think of Coldplay when I see or hear this word, but in the month of October, Nirvana eclipses Coldplay because of the melancholy of this song.

First book down for the #24B4Monday #readathon. Off to a good start time-wise with 4 hrs 40 min.

I'm disappointed. The Raven Cycle series is so excellent, it's hard to believe it's written by the same author. I wanted more wolfy world building and less kissy-kissy, sappy-sappy. The writer has grown a lot since she wrote this.

@TheReadingMermaid @Andrew65 @jb72

TheAromaofBooks This series is definitely more angsty/YA!! 2mo
That-Bookish-Hiker I loved this series but it was the first books of hers I read back in 2009. Her writing has certainly improved and she has perfected that magical realism she is good at. 2mo
Andrew65 Well done even if you didn‘t totally enjoy the book. 2mo
MidnightBookGirl I definitely prefer her later books, but I did enjoy the 2nd and 3rd books more than the first because it introduces Cole St. Clair. 🐺 2mo

My Daddy passed away on Friday night. While not completely unexpected given his decline recently, it was still sudden. I haven‘t been able to read since; just can‘t quiet my mind enough to absorb the words. Maybe while I wait at soccer practice, I‘ll be able to. Or maybe I‘ll just stare into space. 💔

Changing it up with a YA paranormal romance. My BFF‘s college sophomore daughter recommended it (and loaned it) to my HS freshman daughter, who is not a reader. My girlfriend‘s daughter read it in middle school and thought it would be a good book to spark my daughter. She really liked it - enough to listen to the rest of the series on audio. I‘m going to read it before returning it to my BFF so I can share in the experience. ❤️📚

Grace lives in Minnesota near woods and for years she has watched wolves, especially one with yellow eyes. Sam is sometimes a wolf and sometimes a human. He has yellow eyes. This is first book in a series about werewolves that has romance in it.

YA paranormal romance. It was alright, even though I'm not normally into paranormal reads. But I'm not interested in carrying on with the series, so it's just a so-so for me.

I adore my kindle, but diving into Shiver felt wonderful. My hands remembered their old pattern of holding. And the smell—so plot appropriate, that I'd find the smell alluring. 🐺🥀📚 This was one of those books I felt a little guilty about but I couldn‘t put it down. I want to feel more mature and read intricate, richly plotted books, but, whelp I loved this book 😂
Q - Oh, oldest new question: Paper or ebook?

jenniferajanes Welcome to Litsy! 🎉📚 E-book because I can carry my library everywhere, and I have no room to store physical books since a major downsizing several years ago. Also, my maturing eyes appreciate that I can adjust the font size. 😂 7mo
RiverKScottWrites Thanks! I sort of just stumbled on here and love it! 😍 I love love love my ebooks. Also they‘re cheaper 😉 7mo
Lynnsoprano Welcome to our Litsy family! Great first post. I‘m about 50-50. We‘re trying to pare down our library, because we just don‘t have the space. So, to get a new physical book, I have to let go of an old one. Ebooks, I don‘t have that problem 😄 7mo

RiverKScottWrites @Lynnsoprano Paring down with physical books seems to be the name of the game. I had to do that too — then one day I walked in to find my bookshelf *organized* my boyfriend wanted to surprise me. The horror! 😂 (edited) 7mo
wanderinglynn Paper. Only the kindle when traveling. Even then I usually have 1 or 2 physical books with me before I get the Kindle out. There‘s just something about holding a book in your hand. Plus I remember things much better when I‘ve read them from paper vs. on a screen. 7mo
RiverKScottWrites @wanderinglynn Ohhh that‘s interesting about remembering things more on paper. I‘ll have to think about whether this is true for me too 🤔 7mo

jenniferajanes @lroseriver 😊📚🌹 7mo
rretzler Welcome to Litsy. I think I prefer Kindle, easier to hold and I can carry around an entire library. Plus, I can read in the dark without having a light on. I do like the feel of books and being able to thumb through them and also being able to skip back and forth. Also, with a Kindle, I don‘t need to leave my house to buy or borrow a book! Book Gorilla is another service that provides a list of discounted ebooks. Plus The Portalist, too! 7mo
RiverKScottWrites @rretzler Hi! Thanks for the welcome. Cool tip about the other services. Yeah, I love love love discounted ebooks. That‘s a good point about kindle working in the dark. My partner likes that part too, as I don‘t have to bother him 😉 7mo

I'm clearly not the intended audience for this. I normally like YA but not this one. I should have read it 10 years ago when I thought Twilight was good.

This isn't a badly written book, but if you like your paranormal romance heavy on the latter and light on the former, this might be more your jam. This version of werewolf mythology is pretty interesting, but the characters themselves didn't interest me much at all. We learn nearly nothing about them over the course of the book, the romance is predictable, and the questions I wanted answered were left in the air. Unlikely to continue the series.

WhatThePuck Her other series was so much better that this one was kind of a let down. It took time and separation for me to think nicely of it and give it another shot. Lol. 10mo
jmtrivera @WhatThePuck I've heard good things about her other books, so it bums me out just a little that this is the one I happened to run into first. But I liked the supporting characters a lot, so I'm not giving up on her yet. ☺ 10mo

4/5 stars. The writing is so poetic and moving. The narrators seemed to nurture the words, and the cold seemed like a character in itself. ❄❄❄ Beautifully done. There were times that it felt like the story was dragging, but the end picked up nicely. It had an HEA, but it was really abrupt, which I wasn't crazy about. But I'd still recommend it!
