When a friend she hasnt seen or spoken to in years unexpectedly invites Nora (Lee?) to a weekend away in an eerie glass house deep in the English countryside, she reluctantly agrees to make the trip. Forty-eight hours later, she wakes up in a hospital bed injured but alive, with the knowledge that someone is dead. Wondering not what happened? but what have I done?, Nora (Lee?) tries to piece together the events of the past weekend. Working to uncover secrets, reveal motives, and find answers, Nora (Lee?) must revisit parts of herself that she would much rather leave buried where they belong: in the past. In the tradition of Paula Hawkins's instant New York Times bestseller The Girl On the Train and S. J. I am a bit surprised with the average ratings for this one. The narration by Imogen Church was terrific. Perhaps that made the difference.

In a Dark, Dark Wood is the perfect thriller. It held my attention right from the start and had my mind working overtime trying to figure it out. I intended to site down and read fifty pages and read 300. That is the highest praise I can give any book. If you haven‘t read this one, check it out!

Cue the pounding heartbeat, sweaty palms, and overwhelming uneasy-sympathetic vibes for poor Nora. I tend to think nefarious plans involving memory loss with no potential resolution are quite scary. With friends like these, I‘d bail/avoid my past all together as well. Classic who done it...with a side of cattiness, Ouija board, and booze.

I loved the first half of this book but unfortunately the end let it down for me, I just feel it fell a bit flat. I have more books of Ruth's I have heard great things about that are still on my tbr.

I really wish I would of just bailed on this one. I don't think any of the characters' actions made sense, it's not really twisty or thrilling when the whole story relies on inexplicable behavior of every character in the book.

This book was terrifying! Terrifying because of the reality of this situation, and the fact that sometimes we truly cannot tell who is friend or foe. A delicious, fast paced thriller that I zipped right through in less than 48 hours! And the front cover held this gem, one of my favorite Halloween rhymes. A really fabulous, highly recommended read (especially for #TeamSlaughter). #inadarkdarkwood #Scarathlon #Thriller

My 3rd Ruth Ware and certainly my least favorite. Not a whole lot going on in this one; I guessed the secret almost immediately, cookie cutter characters for the genre, and the ending was twisty yet predictable. Still, it was entertaining enough to read in car line to pick up my daughter from school.

Finished the audiobook version of this a few days ago. Ruth Ware is an amazing writer. Easily becoming one of my favorites. The main character Nora(aka Lee) got more then she bargained for when she decided to go to her ex best friend Claire‘s hen. Will she survive the long weekend?

blurb

Listening to this audiobook again because it's my book club's next choice. I appreciate listening to it again, the descriptions are more clear and I'm paying more attention this time since I have to discuss it next month. Mystery story surrounding a “hen party“ (bachelorette getaway) where things go horribly wrong. Remembering now the fatal flaw in the story, but I'm going forth!

The first half of this book was dreadfully slow for me. The characters were shallow and annoying, and the fact that they were all going away for the weekend together was hard to believe. A little over halfway through, there was a huge shift and the pace really picked up. Although there were some holes in the plot, and I still found the characters insufferable, I can't deny that I couldn't stop turning the pages until I found out what had happened.

megzlynn It doesn‘t get better. I wasted time reading this one. At the end I hated all the characters. 3mo

Not a fan of this one. Plot and motive seemed way too thin for me. And it was very slow for a thriller. Add to that a crew of unlikeable characters and plot holes galore! This is my least favorite Ware book so far.

Seriously who owns a creepy glass house in the middle of the woods?!?! From the moment I learned this information, I knew someone was going to die.
Overall I enjoyed the book. The only part I wasn't sold on was James and Nora's past. The author made it seem like they committed murder and got away with it. I wanted there to be more to their story and bigger reason for all the secrets.
Definitely a book I would recommend to a friend.

DeeLew I literally just finished this one and I agree, I really thought it was going to be like a “I know what you did last summer (or 10 years ago anyway)” type of thing. Like they had accidentally killed someone. I was also amazed that no one saw through Clare‘s nonsense?! Overall, I loved it though. I couldn‘t put it down and almost got in trouble at work for sneak reading. 🤣 4mo
cassandra-levens Right?!?! How is it that Clare managed to remember exactly how she acted around everyone. All that deception and you would think that more than just Nora would of been suspicious. 4mo

Because Ruth Ware is a top-notch story teller she can usually keep her readers guessing until the end of the book. Unfortunately, for me, that was not the case for this book. while the premise was good the characters seemed flat and the plot not well developed. Some of the situations the characters found themselves in seemed contrived and unlikely given the premise of the book. I just wasn‘t a fan of this one. 😕

"In a Dark, Dark Wood" is way better than "The Woman in the Cabin 10". You can find the same unsecure heroine in the book, though.

Nora is invited to a bachelorette party by an old friend whom she didn't speak for ten years. In a house in the middle of the wood. If that doesn't smell of murder and mistery then I don't know what.

The characters are a little bit boring and superficial and the twist is meah. The author reminds me of Stephenie Meyer
