The Hazel Wood
The Hazel Wood | Melissa Albert
The Hazel Wood is thoroughly, creepily captivating, with surprises I never saw coming! Such a refreshing and beautifully written inversion of the classic fairy tale-inspired story. Kristin Cashore, award-winning, New York Times bestselling author of the Graceling Realm series This book will be your next obsession. Welcome to the Hazel Wood, where bad luck is a living thing, princesses are doomed, and every page contains a wondrously terrible adventureits not safe inside these pages, but once you enter, you may never want to leave. The Hazel Wood is pure imagination candy. Stephanie Garber, New York Times bestselling author of Caraval

Very odd book about darker fairytales. I have never read a story quite like this before. I liked it but it didn't have a satisfying ending
Very quick read, read it in a couple days.

I recommend this book for fans of young adult novels, twisty fairytales, and dark-gothic reads. This book is the first in a series. Due to the writing and flow of this book, I had a hard time getting lost in it. I was aware that I was reading a book, ya know? I wish the author would‘ve spent more time in the Hinterland (fantasy world) and less time in the “real-world.” Full review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4341987484

My friend/colleague passed away unexpectedly. She was the person I talked books with the most, and she read a book a day! Her reading challenge was 365+ a year. 😮 For those attending her Celebration of Life, I made a “Mimi Recommends” document that contains 85 of her 4 and 5 ⭐️ reviews on Goodreads. I‘m determined to work myself through it this year. I started one of the books last night as balm for my soul. I miss her. ❤️📚

I have mixed feelings about this book. I love dark fairytales and I was intrigued by the concept of this book. However, I found it hard to focus because the writing was all over the place. It didn‘t have an easy flow and I kept having to go back feeling like I missed something. Normally I read a series till the end but I‘ll just find a summary of the next book instead of reading it.

Kind of backwards from the way it usually goes, but I didn‘t like the fantasy part of this one as much as I liked the more real-life parts! The first part was good enough that I‘ll read the second one, though.

I really liked this one. I‘m glad it got picked for this round of #LMPBC! I wasn‘t really sure how I felt about Alice or Finch as I read. I wanted more of the fantasy world and less of the real world. I liked getting a peak at the stories too, but wish I got to read them all.

Wow... This was a really hard decision for me to make. It took me a couple chapters to get into it but then I loved it...that is until I got to maybe the second half of the book. Although it was still good, I felt that the story started to jump around and I was having a trouble following what was going on. I think I would have given it five stars if the second half flowed a little better.

Don't know what to think, really. Not captivating enough to continue the series. Kind of boring so my mind wandered and then coming back I'd almost be lost because it felt too complicated?
I think I preferred Finch to Alice. And can someone explain to me Alice's anger?

This was an interesting story. I loved the dark element of Fairytales and how the stories could be broken by not playing by the rules.of the story it's self. Overall this was an okay read. Don't know if I'll.read the second book. it felt like the book had too much filler. Maybe I would have liked it had I read it and not listened to it as an Audiobook? Don't know.

I wasn't sure what to make of this book at various points, it overlaps several genres (which isn't unpleasant) but I've not read any book like it. The prose is very captivating and visual with great sensory aspects that brought it to life. I felt compelled to read on and genuinely didn't know where it would take me, which can be a sign of a memorable read.

I gave up on this one. I was listening to audiobook and the narrator was bugging me. Main character was so angry in every scene and I couldn't listen anymore. This seems to happen with audiobooks more than physical books so maybe I'll try again in print.

Sometimes I listen to audio clip before checking out of the library but I haven't done that recently.

What did you think of the book?
Do you bail on a book due to the narrator?

#audiobook #dnf

Messiejessie I read the book but I wasn‘t a fan. I just didn‘t get invested into the characters or the story. Although I know lots of people really liked it. 2y
emilyrose_x I've read this and the sequel and didn't love them. Also I'm totally with you on giving up on audiobooks because of the narrator 🙊 2y
