I thought this was going to be a body horror novel. It kind of was, but I'd say it was more of a magical realism story about motherhood. I think it has a strong message - for people that are not me lol.

We went to the Fright Reads Book Festival yesterday and had so much fun! I bought so much stuff lol. But here are the books I got! I got them signed too, so four more books for the autograph collection. Bonus cat feet in the picture!
@Blueberry
This book is pretty stupid but that's ok because I didn't want to bring anything too heavy to the beach 😂
Got to meet Antonia Hylton this morning, and add another autographed book to my collection!
3am impulse purchase...four used Kate Klise books from betterworldbooks.com. I can read children's books if I want to!! Ok!! @Blueberry
1. Sometimes I pick a lot of overly complicated books and my brain gets tired, so I have to read something simple fun or trashy lol.
2. Ken Follett, Harlan Ellison, Daniel Handler
3. Lisa See, Margaret Atwood, Ai Yazawa

Ok so to be perfectly honest I wasn't paying enough attention to the first couple of chapters, which i realize now was a big mistake lol. Because halfway through I was like, wait...what just happened?! But kept trucking along because it's only a 3 hour long audio so figured it'd all wrap itself up soon. And it did...so...SPOILER: This book is not actually about mannequins 😂
Don't get this on audio lol.
Also this is gonna be a real hot take but I think this story would work better as a movie. Trying to piece together who's who, when the plot is literally about people not being who they say they are, and then throwing in an unreliable narrator, was a bit of a headache 😵💫
A fun ride, but definitely did not need to be 14 hours long. Felt a bit dated at times despite being published this summer. The author doesn't seem to know how cell phones work, or what Las Vegas is like. She is also almost 80 years old which might have something to do with it 👽
😵💫 Don't read this if you're pregnant (or if you want to be).
🍏 Halloween related things! And apple cider or apple cider donuts.
🍎 Tired 🥱
🍏 Delicate Condition 👶

Picked this up right after finishing the other Cassandra Khaw book (The Salt Grows Heavy) which I enjoyed. Unfortunately this one I did not!! Not enough characters allowed on Litsy to even begin to tell you why. Pan pan pan!
This book has a lot of layers to it, with a lot of different characters, in a lot off different places, in a lot of different time periods. I know it's taboo to say so but it might actually work better on screen lol (upcoming on Hulu, idk when though). Lots of family and generational trauma, but I can't help but feel like some of it could have been avoided if people had just communicated better?!
This entire book is so tragic, I don't understand why it's being pushed as a romance novel. The subject matter is tough (domestic abuse) and I understand dealing with these things isn't black and white. But I feel like the author romanticizes it too much which kind of grossed me out. I will say it was very readable, in the way a bad Lifetime movie is watchable. It's terrible and sad but you're glued to the screen to see what happens anyway.
Trying this out simply because I've been seeing Colleen Hoover everywhere lately. Only 5 chapters in though and I'm just not vibing with it. Is this really what people find romantic now??? Like just badgering women until they reluctantly agree to sleep with you?
Latest book mail! People to Follow is an ARC courtesy of Wednesday Books. Where Time Begins was an impulse buy because I saw it on the IG page of a tiki bar I'm going to next month 🍹 😂 Both look like great summertime reads! I love the bright and colorful covers.
@Blueberry
Was looking for something to listen to and picked this up on a whim on Libby!
@Blueberry
This was ok, but not as exciting as I hoped. Maybe cozy mysteries aren't my thing. 6/10.
@Blueberry
I've been trying to do some decluttering lately and found an old box with all my book pins! These are so old hahah. Most of them are from book events I went to. The American Girl pins are driving me crazy because why don't I have Molly?! Or Kirsten? Ugh.
@Blueberry
Didn't love this one, but it's not really my type of story. Feels like you're playing a D&D campaign, so I'd still recommend it to people that like that kind of thing 😂
@Blueberry
I enjoyed this! Definitely wacky, but not as silly as some of his other books. Starts pretty slow, but when it gets there...😳 Deals a lot with family loss, so definitely something to be mindful of if that may be difficult for you ❤️
@Blueberry
It's here! 🎉
@Blueberry
1. I have an Amazon wishlist that I send people if they ask, and it has books on it!
2. I got my husband a cookbook! 🤭

I liked the first book a lot, and kind of wish they'd just left it as a standalone. This one felt very repetitive and even cringey at times. The audiobook is read by Lin Manuel Miranda, which I did enjoy.
1. I'm Glad My Mon Died
2. No, but I've had my eye on Once Upon a Book Club. But they don't always have themes I'm interested in and when they DO they always sell out fast 😭
3. The Jolly Christmas Postman 🎄

Lost internet at work tonight which gave me plenty of time to finish this. Seems like every millennial in the world has this on their shelf right now! The content was sad but her writing style is very readable. While the overarching theme is her mom I felt like this was more about eating disorders than anything; so if that is something that distresses you I'd advise to read with caution.
Lots of book mail this month!?! And they all sound great. Which to read first...
1. Usually several, like one on audio, one physical and maybe one with my husband.
2. Favorite: Sea of Tranquility
Least favorite: The Luminaries

Trying to finish this bc I like the plot. But I have to say it's tough to get through with how fat-phobic the writing is. The main character wakes up in a different body & literally says "I resemble some grotesque caricature of the human body," then goes ON about it for 10 chapters. I don't think describing a body as fat is an insult (I'm fat! btw). But to harp on about how gross, pathetic & humiliating it must be for a fat person IS insulting.
1. The Poughkeepsie Tapes!!! 😭
2. I don't read a lot of fantasy, but the first that came to mind was The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
3. Black, purple, orange! 🖤💜🧡

Went on a bookstore date and finally got a copy of House of Leaves! Excited to dive in but tbh I'm not sure if I'm clever enough for it hahah. We'll see!
Husband picked up the new James Butcher novel which he was really looking forward to.
💁Husband: We should watch the new Hellraiser movie, here, watch this trailer.
💁🏻♀️Me: Sure, want to read the book first?
🙎Husband: That sounds fun!
Us, one week later: 😳😵😵💫
@Blueberry
1. The Shining 👻
2. Drinking coffee right now! ☕️
3. I love fall! Halloween stuff, wedding anniversary, and mom might come visit! 🍁

We read this for bookclub recently. It was ok, but I thought I'd like it more. I like the movie better! 🤫 We had a good conversation about it though which is what bookclubs are about, anyway.
@Blueberry
I enjoyed this book, but I wish I had read The Glass Hotel first. I really liked the Station Eleven references (world building!) and I understand there were also a lot from The Glass Hotel that I didn't pick up on. I'd like to read that soon and then try this one again.
