I‘d heard so much about this so found a copy at the library. By far,one of the most overwhelming books I‘ve read in 2022.
Sometimes it is the who loves you who hurts you the most. This is a heavy, personal story which is deep and profound. It will make you feel uncomfortable but sit in your heart. A powerful and intense relationship is explored but although it is a sad story, strength is the word I use to describe it.
Triggers:domestic violence

Loved this book! Did not like Verity at all, but this book was surprisingly refreshing. The author's note at the end really illuminates why this book is such a strong one for her. The personal experiences always translate into effortless writing. 9/10! 🙌👍👍

Towards the beginning of this book, it seemed “lighter” than I wanted it to be. To be honest, it felt like a beach read romance. But as the story and characters developed, it got more deep and engaging, and it ended up being very compelling. The story deals with themes of domestic abuse and homelessness in nuanced and thoughtful ways. I liked it!

“I‘m more focused on other people, and how they ultimately come to the decision to just end their own lives. Do they ever regret it?” Just started “It ends with Us,” and already it seems extremely interesting, I adore the writing and it already has me very emotionally hooked. Can‘t wait to read more!! :)

I loved this book from the first page. The first chapter is ABSOLUTELY my favorite. The course of events is fast and no details are left to chance. You become attached to the main and secondary characters immediately. This book was a huge carousel of emotions, I felt all kinds of feelings. It teaches you what strength and courage are. It teaches us women to fight for what we think is right, for our future. I will tell this story to my children.

This book gutted me. I thought it was just going to be a classic love triangle, and instead I read the last 2/3rds of it in a single sitting through fits of sobbing. Thank you to my friend Becca for the loan.

A quote that deeply resonated with me:
“Cycles exist because they are excruciating to break. It takes an astronomical amount of pain and courage to disrupt a familiar pattern.”

Is enjoyed the right word? This is a powerful and emotive read. Didn‘t buy into the romance at all, I found Ryle arrogant and manipulative from the beginning but if this book helps just one woman in a similar situation realise she‘s needs help then it‘s done its job. #pick #ItEndsWithUs

🌸IT ENDS WITH US🌸
By Colleen Hoover
I am so glad I read this book.
I didn't think I could feel so much all at once, I was angry, sad, cheerful, frustrated, heartbroken, hopeful and what not.
This book delivers so much... Friendship, love story, parenting, domestic violence and difficult relationships.

After giving the eulogy for her father's funeral, Lily meets a mysterious man named Ryle. They share “naked truths” about themselves and some major flirting occurs. They reluctantly part paths, unlikely to meet again. Lily opens a flower shop and works hard to make it a success. Coincidentally, Ryle and Lily meet again and begin to form a relationship that appears like a fairytale.

Madie.Marsh After a few incidents, Lily must decide if her dark past is repeating itself or if the circumstances are more complicated than she thought. Many twists and turns lead Lily to her rock bottom.
If you like books that don‘t follow the typical romance plot, this book is for you.
It Ends With Us is heavily based on the experiences of Lily‘s childhood involving her parents‘ relationship.
(edited) 2mo
Madie.Marsh Lily must decide whether to follow in their footsteps or choose a different path. (This book does involve abuse )

The point of view in this book is Lily‘s. We get to read her thoughts and everything she has with Ryle. The author lives through Lily to express her thoughts about abuse in relationships. Colleen Hoover, the author, writes in the “notes from the author” about how she had a similar experience with her parents.
(edited) 2mo
Madie.Marsh She uses pronouns such as “I“ “Him“ “we“ “us“ to show that it is from a first-person perspective. 2mo
MissYaremcio Nicely done Madie! I should really read this book! 6/6 2mo

Everyone has been talking about this book and CoHo since she‘s all over BookTok. I love when people who don‘t normally read discover a love of reading and this book definitely has that going for it. Not literature, and I was cringing so often while reading, but I was still emotionally invested in the characters and story. I have yet to come to terms with issues from my past but this hits home; I hope it saves others from unhealthy relationships.

CBee I‘ve read a handful of CoHo books, and honestly I‘d recommend Without Merit. It‘s quite different from her other books. Also, Verity if you like twisty and dark. 😊 3mo
Chelsea.Poole @CBee thank you! I do like twisty and dark! I plan to give Verity a try and maybe Without Merit too. Thanks for the recommendations 😊 3mo
CBee @Chelsea.Poole absolutely! I remember a few cringy moments too - despite being totally invested in the story. WM and Verity though, both of those hooked me without the cringe factor 😂 3mo

This book really does live up to the buzz and booktok hype. A contemporary love story that explores topics, like abuse, generational trauma and the cycle of abuse, first love, fulfilling your own dreams and living your truth and best life. The abuse storyline can be very painful for anyone who has experienced this, however Lily‘a strength feels like a healing balm. Her growth and resilience make this book an absolute gem.

This is by far my favorite CoHo read to date. And I've read Verity.

IEWU gives readers a very realistic DV situation, I saw 🚩🚩 pretty early on and was really hoping to see the results I expected, and I did. Those flags were never acknowledged by anyone in the book and I think that speaks volumes about the readers ability to see them. The ending was also crucial to the reader's understanding of the cycle. I love this story.

I am in the minority, but I hated this. Ryle is a classic narcissist using his unresolved childhood trauma as an excuse for his abuse. The red flags made my skin crawl from the first rooftop meeting. Hoover‘s choice to make him a sympathetic character who claims “there are no bad people, just good people that do bad things” is incredibly irresponsible, if not dangerous. Ryle is a bad person and did not love Lily. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Aims42 I agree with your review 100%! I bailed halfway, I just couldn‘t get past all the cringy dialogue 😬🙄 3mo
BeckyWithTheGoodBooks I do not judge Lily or anyone that has experienced DV, and think Hoover was successful in showing how you can convince yourself to stay. I, myself, am still healing from years of emotional abuse. I also understand the personal connection Hoover has to this story. However, I think the relationship she was able to establish with the father that abused her mother is a unique situation, and this book borders on romanticizing abusive men. 3mo
BeckyWithTheGoodBooks Lily divorces Ryle and boldly claims that the cycle ends with her and her daughter, but I‘m not convinced. Ryle faces virtually zero accountability for his actions: he remains a successful neurosurgeon and has access to his infant daughter without even a whisper of therapy or professional help. It seems that even in a work of fiction men can not be held responsible when it comes to misogyny and toxic masculinity. (edited) 3mo
See All 6 Comments
BeckyWithTheGoodBooks Plus, the writing is just bad and super cringy. I have been so excited to read this author for the first time, but now I‘m not sure I‘ll ever get this taste out of my mouth. 1⭐️ (edited) 3mo
BeckyWithTheGoodBooks @aims42 I know my opinion is super unpopular, but glad I‘m not alone! 3mo
Cailey_Mac I definitely agree! While I enjoyed the book and it did pull at my heart at the end, I honestly only saw RED when he first pushed her in the kitchen- after that I was like “why isn‘t she leaving?” But I do like that the author tried to bring domestic violence to more peoples attention. 3mo

Book 26
A different book by an author you read in 2021: It Ends With Us | Colleen Hoover ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐⭐
F**K ! THIS BOOK!
It destroyed me & built me up again. A catharsis. I'm glad I pushed through, in spite of all the triggers. My favorite from Colleen's so far. I hope one day I can hug her & tell her THANK YOU! ***More in the comments***

WJCintron My son and I are survivors of domestic violence. I endured it for 13 LONG years. A living hell, since the 4th day of our marriage till I FINALLY got divorced on 2012, after battling for 2 years for my son's safety/rights. After reading this book, and 10 years of being divorced (AMEN), I finally feel validated and even stronger than before. This book is a true blessing. 3mo
WJCintron I used to believe all men were the same. NOT anymore. I believe there are good men out there capable of loving their families and make them happy. I've healed. But I'm certainly NOT looking for a man in my life. Not anymore.
Falling in love should be one of the happiest moments in someone's life. Loving someone, should feel right, easy, it should give you butterflies, instead of doubt, fear.
(edited) 3mo
WJCintron Love hurts, but it should be the type of hurt that hurts SO GOOD you don't want it to end.
I still believe in love. The one that's vulnerable and true. ❤😊
