Bookclub pick and look forward to discussing it with them. Very well written and I can see why this was one of Reece Witherspoon‘s bookclub picks.
Plan for the morning. Bookclub book and fresh coffee❤️
This book kept coming up on a podcast that I listen to called “What should I read Next”. I am very glad to now say that I have read it and loved it. I loved reading from Francie‘s point of view and was rooting for her and her family throughout the book. I loved how reading was talked about so powerfully and as something that can save you from your circumstances.
I really enjoyed this book. Give it a chance! It is lighthearted in some ways and also deals with some harder topics as well. Grief, motherhood, trying to keep your job when new people take over and trying to find yourself. There are nosy neighbors, gardens and exercise ball office chairs. My first read from this author, I will read more.
I listened to this as an audiobook. The author is the narrator and is great. This was the first book I read by this author and I will read more. He is honoring his family( especially his Mom as it should be)and cooking and recipes are a part of the story. It is a longer book on audio so you for sure will need to take breaks from it, but awesome to listen to while making or eating dinner.
I really enjoyed this book. I feel like it is one that you need to allow yourself to take time with experience all of the imagery. I highly recommend it... go meet these characters, you won‘t regret it. I loved many of them, but I believe Olive, the librarian, was my favorite.
I listened to the audiobook and really liked these ladies. They really seem to feel blessed by their family relationships.
In the acknowledgments, the author mentions her father “who loved good stories about regular people”. I think that sums this book up well! I enjoyed meeting the people in the story. Nice and relaxing read, glad a librarian had marked it on the shelf as one of her picks as it made me look at it and pick it up.
I really enjoyed this book. I listened to the audio version and Jen is a fantastic narrator, you feel like you are listening to one of your friends. She is open and honest. Her faith is inspiring and real. We are reading this for our bookclub and I would highly recommend it. After listening to this audiobook, I found that she has a podcast and it is great also.
Have read this in the past and loved it. Reading Again for bookclub. The audiobook is good on this one also.
My family has been through a terrible year, just really awful. This book gives such great advise in just the first few chapters I have read so far. It is currently on sale on Amazon for $1.99.
Overall I thought this was a good book. I had some issues with how much was crammed into the very last chapters. There are some nice people to meet in the story and inspired thoughts of how people can make a difference for others. This was a book I read on the Kindle through the Kindle first option and somehow I thought the title said Detectives rather than Defectives. It took me an embarrassing amount of time to catch my error😩
I read this book for my bookclub. I think it will be a fun discussion. I did really enjoy the story being told from the Imaginary friends perspective. You really use your imagination when reading to keep up with the descriptions in the book. There were a few slow spots in the middle, but push through as it gets quite good. I am glad I read it😊
We picked this as our last bookclub selection. I didn't love this, but at the same time I am not sorry I read it. I was done with it a week or so before we discussed it and by that time I realized that some of it was sticking with me. If you start it, try and finish as there are lessons to be . One message was if you only have one friend make sure you pick a good one.
I listened to this on audio. It was read by the author, which sometimes doesn't work, but in this case was so much fun. Fans of Gilmore Girls especially will enjoy listening to Lauren Graham taking about her life including the shows she had been on. There was a lot of insights into how the Netflix recent release came about etc. She is charming, smart, and funny. I am an even bigger fan after listening.
I am sure many of you listen to podcasts, as I heard about Litsy from "All the Books!". I just thought I would share a few bookish podcasts in case you haven't as they are a lot of fun to listen to. I have gotten great book recommendations from the podcasts including "The Clancys of Queens". Have a great day!
I loved this book! I used my commute time to listen to the audiobook. The narrator is Linda Lavin and she is fantastic! My first read by this author and it was great. A Granddaughter interviews her Grandmother about her life. It is written from the Grandmothers perspective. I enjoyed my first read by this author. It is my bookclub's pick for January. I think there will be great discussion!
I listened to the audio addition of this book. It is read by the author which adds so much. He breaks into song and has character interludes in between chapters. His love for his family and friends comes out so strongly. He comes off very genuine in this. I laughed many times and also cried listening to this. Worth it!
I listened to this as an audiobook. The author, Tara Clancy, reads it and she is a fantastic narrator. There is a lot of love in this book and her family is such a fantastic bunch of characters. So glad to have listened after ready Liberty's recommendation!
I really enjoyed this book. Life is short, but you never know how your actions can make such a huge difference in people's lives. Also, a reminder that you never know what is going on with people behind the scenes. Grumpy isn't always what it seems. Good Thanksgiving pick.
This was the book for my bookclub this month. I am looking forward to the discussion next week. It is slower moving until about the halfway point and then you really are vested and want to know what happens and worry for the characters you have met. Hard truths about war and the power of the human spirit.
I enjoyed this book! I believe she and her friends really did help out the people in this kitchen counter cooking school. I listened to this as an audio book, and although the narrator did a great job, I would recommend this as a book you would want to buy or check out rather than listen to, as there are quite a few recipes that are read. "Burnt Toast Makes You Sing Good " is still my favorite of hers as I loved that one, but this is also good.
I enjoyed this memoir. To me it was like a collection of short stories as it jumped around a bit. The author shares a lot about her writing process, which is very interesting. She was generously honest in a way that I feel helps people . There is a lot of love shown in this book for her family and her upbringing. There is a great deal about what books and other authors have taught her over time. I am going to read more of her work!
I read this with my bookclub. It took me a bit to get into as there are many characters. I did like how the story is written from different perspectives. It did teach me about a tragedy in US history that I was unfamiliar with. It was a good book to read with a bookclub as it was an interesting discussion. If you read this, be sure to read the discussion with the author at the end, as it explained a lot behind the motivation for writing.
I listened to this as an audiobook. I thought it was very good in this format, but I also thought it would be good to own as a hard copy to underline somethings to remember. The author does a great job of sharing her faith and the importance of relationships. When life is good be thankful and celebrate, when life is hard be thankful and grow. I will definitely read more by her and have passed on recommendations to others
I really love this book! I have read it and then also listened to the audiobook and it has a great narrator. It is filed many times with the cookbooks, it is really a memoir with recipes. The recipes are things the author remembers about growing up in a resourceful family. When I read it, it brought up so many funny memories for me from the time this time period. It is really a great read!!! So worth it
I enjoyed this book! Jo Jo Moyes writes such endearing characters. I always find myself rooting for them and I think you will too. This book addresses the have and have nots in an interesting way. It deals with the subjects of bullying, optimism, finding your tribe, blended families, long car rides with a flatulent dog, and helping each other. I would recommend it!
I did like this book. I liked getting to find out about Lou. The bookclub I am in had read "Me Before You" last year. We had such a great discussion about it. This year we all went to the movie together and then all read this sequel and met again to discuss it. What a great journey we shared!
I did like this book. There were a couple of things that I might have liked to turn out different but I really liked the whole premise and the characters in the town were very endearing. I met the author at a book signing and she was charming! I would recommend it!
