My plan for tonight's #Hyggehour is to browse Amy Stewart's amazing "spirited toast to the marriage of botany and booze." While doing so, I shall be sipping a festive, sloe gin hot toddy. ??❄️?
What are your plans?

Last month of 2023‘s #roll100. 🎲 I‘m not feeling motivated by my choices for 9/90 or 53. So it‘ll only be no. 27 getting read for December.

You can never have enough plants, same as books. I turned an old cabinet into a plant/fossil/shell treasure trove.

More than anyone needs to know about the alcohol we drink, but a lot of fun with a ton of great recipes. Love Stewart‘s voice. I plan on referring to this book when I plant my garden next year so I have good mixers. 😜
One of my favorite books-an unexpected find in a neighborhood shop somewhere in Atlanta. I was wandering through because I had a few hours to kill between hotel check out and heading to the airport.

I listened to the audiobook and flipped along in the ebook for the illustrations. So many interesting tidbits. Information overload! I need to buy a physical copy for the pretty illustrations and to keep in my cocktail cabinet. Lots of recipes to try. #rbdigital
At a gin bar. This menu reminded me of tagged book.
😋 Delicious and funny. Come and enjoy a drink or two.
Funny, engaging read about the history and botany of plants used in booze. Will teach you things and add many liquors to your wishlist! After reading, I just tried Drambuie for the first time and it's fantastic.
A fun little encyclopedia of plants & drinks. I probably wouldn't have read this if not for book club, and definitely not cover-to-cover. I would, however, recommend it if you're really into the relationship between your produce & your food, which I know many people are. It gave me many fun facts to consider & a lot of different liquors and recipes I'd like to try. Also, it's a really neat-looking book, so it's worth having on the shelf.
#BookMail video!!! Special shout-out to:
@jmofo Jessie I love this card so much I am going to keep it forever and ever. Thank you so very much 😘🤗😘🤗
And to:
@EclecticReaders for their awesome gift to me. I can't wait to read and review this book! Thank you so much for hosting #11thHourReadathon and for this awesome gift 😘🤗😘🤗

I finally made it to Paper Skyscraper in SouthEnd. It‘s only taken me 6 years, despite working 1/2 mile away. This store is dangerous. Paper, books, and knick knacks! Looking forward to sending letters to my pen pals on proper stationery instead of notebook paper! 😂😂 Thank you (I think) to the person who mentioned they had books (and I‘m sorry I can‘t remember who that was😔).
I really enjoyed reading this for December‘s #EclecticReaders #Podcast episode, which is out now! Along with discussing this book and the facts we found super interesting we do a year-end review of our favorite books and discussion topics from the 2018 episodes. Listen on Apple Podcasts/other podcatchers under Eclectic Readers, or on our website at eclecticreaders.fireside.fm/56
On this month‘s #EclecticReaders #Podcast episode we review the year and pick our favorite books and episode discussions! We then discuss The Drunken Botanist by @AmyStewart - the facts we found intoxicating and the drinks we found tempting. Listen at eclecticreaders.fireside.fm/56
We‘ll be releasing our podcast episode discussing The Drunken Botanist on Saturday, but here‘s a great list if you‘re looking for some other boozy literary-inspired book! Article: https://bookriot.com/2018/12/05/literary-cocktail-books/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm...
⭐⭐⭐ Not my favorite but fun! An encyclopedia on plants and the liquor they make. If you're into liquor or plants then this might be right up your alley 😁

Found this connection while reading this month's #EclecticReaders book so I tweeted @AmyStewart to ask. Ended up learning a little about the connections between her books, which are really fun to read, so that's pretty darn cool! Also, may have just been granted a factory full of singing Oompa Loompas, so that's neat too.

Finished just in time for book club! #CuttingItClose #EclecticReaders @EclecticReaders
I left the house without my book and now we're waiting almost 20 minutes at the Metro on our way home! 😲 Oh wait, I left a library book in my purse. #NetteReadsinOddPlaces #NetteReadsOddly
We just read an Epic Fantasy, and now we‘re reading a Non-Fiction about plants and booze! Read along with us and make a drink from the book to sip on when you listen to the episode in December! #EclecticReaders
On day three of rain and we're running out of activities! Final page of Elmo water coloring from the dollar store! #AudioColoring
Thank you @mabell for the amazing #feedareader package! You surely or a lot of thought into it. I love home made cook books.... There are always a few treasures inside each one. Rory was particularly fond of the cookie cutter.... 🐕 @TricksyTails @MinDea
How about a garden meme? 😄🌱🌷
1.) It‘s hard to pick a fave, so I‘ll say lilies.
2.) Brussels sprouts! And okra. And chard.
3.) I have a shared garden with the other people in my townhouse row. It‘s all flowers and a bonsai Japanese maple.
4.) See tagged book! Such a cool idea for a nonfiction book.
If you perpetuate this, please tag me @REPollock and #GardenParty so I can read your answers! 🌺🌱🌹🌿🌸🍀🌼
I‘m so excited about the Spanish edition of The Drunken Botanist! Finally, a foreign edition that I can read—and it‘s for sale in the US!
Looking forward to checking this not yet Litsy listed book & author out at the ABA‘s Winter Institute in Memphis. Will any other Littens be attending?
Diving right into my #ssgp goody book from @Shadowfat & reading about agave (🍍🌵) and it‘s boozy history 🥃
I predict that by the end of this book, I will either a) start planting odd plants in my backyard b) purchase mixology equipment or c) be drunk 😵 😆 or...all.
#drunkenbotanist
I loved this! This book ended up being the last one of my list for 3 challenges (#readharder #litsyatoz #litsyreadingchallenge). I didn‘t realize how well researched and funny this would be. I pictured it being most recipes and was way off. History, gardening tips, gross facts, humor; this has it all! Will definitely be picking up her other books!!
I don‘t want this book to end! Amy Stewart is full of sass and I love it!!! #litsyreadingchallenge #lrc1
Ok, so I‘ve been reading this for just over a day and my significant other is already sick of me popping my head up and saying “Did you know...?!”. 🤣 He‘s at least still responding and occasionally pretending to be interested. I‘m totally captivated! #litsyreadingchallenge #lrc1 #themoreyouknow
This book is fabulous! I‘m really enjoying it so far. This is the last book on my list for the three reading challenges I participated in (not including my goodreads goal). I can‘t wait to learn more! And my Sherlock bookmark from a prior #nerdypost box seemed quite appropriate. My holidays will be filled by me spouting off facts about booze. 😉 #litsyreadingchallenge #lrc1
Today‘s theme: #bookanddrink. I love the cover! #litsyreads #uncannyoctober @RealLifeReading
#30daysofreadathon Day 24: Drinks
My go-to drink for the #readathon is absolutely a variety of teas. Balance the caffeinated jasmine green a relaxing oolongs and I can definitely make it the full 24 hours!
Obvious choice for #backtoreading's #booksandbooze - @Tiffy_Reads @JoeStalksBeck
This picture is from Goodreads. I had taken some pictures of the selection of @AmyStewart's books at London's Natural History Museum but can't find the pictures and didn't want to show you the black-white kindle picture.
Interesting read on the science of our favorite drinks and the plants that people used to make them. Nice mix of science and history.
Just finished mowing while listening to this for #eclecticreadathon This isn't the sort of book I would normally listen to on audiobook but I am reading it for a challenge and it was available so... It definitely held my interest and I have learned quite a bit. I can't believe I have 6 hrs left, though. How many more plants can there be? Interested to see what else the book includes.
How can I explain how much I LOVED this!? The combination of history, botany, and humour was bang on!
I am sad I could not share this with my abuelo who, as a botanist and happy imbiber, would have gotten a kick out of both the book and seeing me enjoy it so much.
Well, the only cure for a hangover is hair o' the dog, right? So on to Wicked Plants!!!
Maggots are an "unavoidable defect"????!!!!!????
Oh my god, I'm never eating fake maraschino cherries again!!!!
Totally just looked up a newsclip about a "sobering up rescue" for drunken lorikeets...??????
Perhaps one of the best factoids in this book!
Go home, lorikeet, you're drunk.????
Ancient date palm planted 2000 years later!!!! So, obviously I had to check out the fate of this plant, and it turns out good ol' Methuselah is a boy but has been pollinated with a wild, modern female plant so does produce dates. For more info about Solowey's desire to plant an ancient date palm orchard, see:

I love dates!!!!😁🌴🌴🌴🌴 (closest emoji)
Wishing I had all the ingredients on hand and maybe a few friends...
My #bookoutlet order arrived this morning! Love a color-coordinated stack 📚 Now where to fit these in to my TBR list?? 🤔
