Book 1/5 for #Jumpstart2023
Declan moves from Boston to New Orleans & is drawn to Manet Hall, a stunning home in disrepair, full of ghosts.&falls in love with a sassy bar owner &sets to right wrongs from the past.

I wouldn‘t say “run &buy it”, but if you see it at a used book sale for $1.25 you‘ll get more than your money‘s worth. Only my 2nd NR but she writes a great complicated prickly cactus woman & charming affable man duo with a side of HGTV

Clwojick Great job! 1y

#JumpStart2023

- Read/DNF 5 physical books off the TBR (including the tagged book I have been slow poking my way through)
- Bring back morning reading. (I used to start the day with 10 pages/1 chapter of a nonfiction book sometimes self help but it can be any interest that starts the day positively)

🎉🥳🍻📚

Clwojick I love the idea of starting off the day with a positive book! I might need to try something like this! 💖 1y
5feet.of.fury @Clwojick I completely stole that from 75 hard, but it‘s a good habit! 1y

There was a phase I enjoyed Nora Roberts‘s TV movie adaptations of her books. Northern Lights, Angels Fall, Montana Sky, Blue Smoke, Carolina Moon, and the tagged book. Not read this book though.

StayCurious The movies are fun, if a little rushed. 5y

One of the first Nora Roberts‘ I read, and one of the spookiest too! A successful lawyer is somehow drawn to an old house. He purchases it and immediately begins to see and hear things. There‘s a story of sorts played out in these hauntings. Roberts plays the spooky vibe well, or at least for someone like me who scares easily. Yes, there is a romance, but try it for the spooky factor too. #BlueBayou #MarchIntoThe70s

Bailedbailed

Ugh, I was in the mood for a classic NR but this one didn't do it for me at all. I enjoyed the New Orleans setting but the ghost story aspect was too heavy handed and it's another house reno plot (is it me or has she done that several times?). Plus the heroine was SO irritating, major eyerolls happening. I hate bailing on books, but I realized I was only halfway through and had no desire to finish. My TBR is too long for this ish 🤷🏽‍♀️ #romantsy

Jaya That‘s too bad but life is too short to force yourself to complete it without enjoyment. This is actually one I teach often though (apart from Naked in Death) because it addresses race and gender in the US context and a lot of the scenes force characters to walk in someone else‘s shoes— really useful when getting students to think about identities not their own. 6y
swishandflick @Jaya Oh, interesting! I wasn't picking up on that, it just felt like a ghost story without much suspense since the book begins with the flashback of what happened. And I just never felt genuine chemistry between the characters. I'm a big Nora Roberts fan so I was pretty surprised that I didn't take to it. Could be the mood I'm in 🤔 6y
5feet.of.fury I‘ve only read The Obsession and this one from NR and they both had so much house renovation/design/HGTV moments. I noticed that too. I looked at her Wikipedia and her 2nd/current husband is a carpenter so I‘m thinking that‘s the influence 😂 1y

Look how pretty it is!

I really loved and enjoyed this book up until quiet literally the last chapter. I enjoyed Decleans dry humor. Lenas self made woman bad ass ness. The romance, the ghosts. Yes it had a familiar feeling but there were enough changes to keep it interesting but that ending left me pretty dang disappointed.

To keep or give away? What do you do with a book that disappoints you?
