What a weird and wild little book this was. Absolutely not something I would have picked up on my own, but I surprisingly enjoyed it. Following a group of people in 1930s New York and their drama filled lives. Very much of its time yet quite relevant still. Read for #sundaybuddyread
I tried to like this book more, but in the end, I didn't really care much for it. The drama of people trying to social climb and betraying one another did not attract me. I was not fond of the characters, though the setting was interesting. And the ending was kind of a letdown for me. If this was not a buddy read, I would have DNFed the book a while ago.
A novel full of despicable characters, fabulous NYC landscape, classism, sexism, pre-WWII America. One redeeming character, trying her best to survive in a chaotic world driven by her relationship with the narcissist Amanda Keller.Satire & snark provide scenes of hilarity. The novel made me laugh, but also angry at times. This is a little gem of escapism in today‘s trying times. #sundaybuddyread
Mid morning coffee. Soft breeze, bird song, blue sky with a few linear clouds, coffee, books. Joining in a Litsy discussion on tagged book. #porchlife #coffeeandbooks #Litsy
