Kyla Cheng doesn't expect you to like her. For the record, she doesn't need you to. On track to be valedictorian, she's president of her community club, a debate team champ, plus the yummy Mackenzie Rodriguez has firmly attached himself to her hip. She and her three high-powered best friends don't just own their senior year at their exclusive Park Slope, Brooklyn high school, they practically define the hated species Popular. Kyla's even managed to make it through high school completely unscathed. Until someone takes issue with this arrangement. A week before college applications are due, a video of Kyla "doing it" with her crush-worthy English teacher is uploaded to her school's website. It instantly goes viral, but here's the thing: it's not Kyla in the video. With time running out, Kyla delves into a world of hackers, haters and creepy stalkers in an attempt to do the impossible-take something off the internet-all while dealing with the fallout from her own karmic footprint. Set in near-future Brooklyn, where privacy is a bygone luxury and every perfect profile masks damning secrets, The Takedown is a stylish, propulsive, and provocative whodunit, asking who would you rely on if your tech turned against you?

Working on reading more print from my personal bookshelves and randomly picked up this book. I purchased it from a library book sale and have had it for years. Thought I‘d read a few pages to get the gist and read 7 chapters. It seems like it‘s going to be a wild story!

Sapphire It‘s a great feeling when you find a gem on your own forgotten shelves! 2y
Chelleo @Sapphire IKR!? Past me did a good job! (edited) 2y

Mehso-so

All I could think of while reading this book is how the technology used to 'take down' Kyle *actually exists in real life*.

silentrequiem Oooh, jealous of The Takedown! 6y
Chelleo @silentrequiem ... It was a random pick. I liked the color her and it had decent ratings on Litsy and Goodreads. Looking forward to reading both. 6y

I started this earlier today and I'm hooked. It's so interesting!! Kind of getting a slightly-futuristic Gossip Girl/Pretty Little Liars vibe??

Went into it thinking it was about technology etc and although it is a little bit, definitely more about friendships and making mistakes. Pretty good story but some parts a little tedious.

A morality tale of the dangers of technology. What happens when you're being framed and the world is against you? Now imagine if social media and society's tech doesn't believe you either? Can you still fight back?

Skip it.

Finally crawling out of a reading slump to show my face on Litsy. I'm liking this book so far! I'm just really hoping the current most likely suspect is a red herring and there's a twist ahead!

I liked this, despite the English teacher in me being ridiculously frustrated at the imagining of how people in the future might speak. Not a comment on the author at all, but a comment what could be the reality of where we're heading.

Back to working on my ARC TBR pile and this one's next. I love books set in a near future where something is a little off. This one has big brother tech and it's set in a NYC prep school, I couldn't resist. My coffee break reading was too short though. #teenlibrarian

This is set in a technology advanced future. Docs are THE personal connection device- think the iPhone of tomorrow. And yet, it seems oddly familiar because even in today's techno world we're all so attached to our devices. In this part the main character and her not-boyfriend have gone out without their devices for the day. The inability to constantly update her online profiles or text is driving her crazy... I'm seriously digging this book, btw.

TheLondonBookworm Ooooh yes please! Stacked :) 7y

A brilliant and unflinching look at technology, social media, feminism, and friendship, set in a near-future Brooklyn. Like the best parts of Gossip Girl but packing a deeper emotional punch.
