I didn‘t like this student‘s version much because it left out the whole voodoo narrative. i am not sure if it was particularly thrilling for my students. But then the original is so full of stereotypes and degrading language at least this was not given in this version.

I am currently reading four different novels with four different classes. Of course they are the students versions which are easier and have less different narratives but I get mixed up a lot - especially when the lessons are one after another. Last time it told the students The Hound of the Baskervilles was written by Ian Fleming. 🙈

Bond is sent over to the States to tackle some secret business in New York and then in Jamaica. The language around Black people in this book is horrendous so you need to be aware at that.
I found myself laughing my head off at a comment about a receptionist being too pretty, a reception area needs someone with less looks and more brains! Ugh these books are something.
There's a lot to overlook in these books in terms of race and gender.

#7Books7Days Day 2

Books that left a deep impression on me
(I read the James Bond books at a VERY impressionable age - I think this was my first)

@Amiable would you like to join in (if you have you been tagged already)?

Ruthiella I read all the Ian Fleming Bond novels in my late teens/early 20s. I also obsessively watched the films. I don‘t know how I‘d feel about them now. 🤨 I should revisit one.😀 5y
Amiable Thanks for the tag! I'd love to jump in. 5y

#Scarathon #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick #ChillingPhotoChallenge #VooDoo I went with the movie poster for this book by Ian Fleming only because the book cover I have is without jacket and boring for a photo! Happy Monday Littens!

Since there were a few comments about the old cover on my James Bond book yesterday, I thought I'd post pictures of the others from my library. Here are the Roger Moore film tie-ins (and his diary while filming Live and Let Die - I was a huge fan, but you have to make allowances, I was VERY young😂)

Ruthiella Moore was my first bond too. 😀 6y
Reggie I look at him now back then and wonder what I was thinking, but I had such a crush on him and he still remains my favorite Bond. A View to a Kill is still my favorite Bond movie with him in it. RIP Roger Moore. 6y
CarolynM @Reggie Clearly we share the same questionable taste😂 6y

This was my first encounter with Harlem (I read all the James Bond books at an unhealthily early age I think I was 10 when I read this one) but I don't remember any angels.
#WinterWonderland #AngelOfHarlem

Ruthiella Love the cover! One instance where the movie tie in is cool (though one may not have agreed with me back in the 70s when it was printed)😎 6y
CarolynM @Ruthiella I thought it was incredibly cool at the time, but I didn't know enough to know any better! 6y
TrishB Hard to remember they were books first as the films have taken over so much! 6y

Cinfhen So true @TrishB I don‘t think I‘ve read any Ian Fleming 😢 6y
erzascarletbookgasm I love these old editions, cool looking covers. 6y
Jeg Love Older books. Does that one smell good? 😊 (edited) 6y
CarolynM @Jeg It definitely has an old book smell, but it doesn't smell as nice as the old leather bound books🙂 6y

Went to Spyscape in NYC - it's a spy museum/experience complete with surveillance, lie detection, and laser maze challenges among others. I got assigned the role of Spycatcher at the end due to the data they collected on me throughout. It said I am a perfectionist, am analytical, and inquisitive. They pegged me spot on. Super fun day and got some books from the upstairs gift shop. Am about to visit the downstairs SPY BOOKSTORE. #spy #spyscape #nyc

InLibrisVeritas That sounds incredibly cool! 6y
MaleficentBookDragon That sounds like so much fun. 6y

More colourful covers from the James Bond collection I bought my husband for his birthday! #PinkCover #AprilBookishMadness

GarthRanzz These are just the best covers! 7y
TK-421 @GarthRanzz 🙌 I'm planning to post pics of all of them eventually. I've been using photo challenges as an excuse to post them here & there, but I might end up just sharing them for the joy of it 😊 (edited) 7y

Not my favorite Ian Fleming Bond book, but it is my favorite copy because it's a souvenir from #shakennotstirred signed by Simon Vance himself. He made listening to the whole series fun, not to mention the Twitter viewing parties.

Dogearedcopy Oh! But this is the novel where we learn that Fleming's Bond & Leiter are not as immune to the vicissitudes of the spy trade as are their Hollywood counterparts! And voodoo! And sharks! And Bond Girl Jane Seymour as Solitaire! :-) #shakennotstirred 9y
LitHousewife Very true, but it's far from Dr. No and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which are by far my favorites. 😍 #shakennotstirred 9y
bermudaonion That covers embodies everything I dislike about James Bond. 9y
Dogearedcopy LOL, 'Live and Let Die' isn't my favorite either (It's a toss-up btw 'Casino Royale' & 'From Russia with Love.) The whole series was bizarrely uneven, and each novel on itself had something to like and dislike! For this one, I liked the Jamaican setting & Fleming's descriptiveness of the waters :-) 9y
LitHousewife You definitely need to look past the sexism if you're going to read Bond novels, @bermudaonion . 9y
