Terms of Endearment
Terms of Endearment: A Novel | Larry McMurtry
In this acclaimed novel that inspired the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Larry McMurtry created two unforgettable characters who won the hearts of readers and moviegoers everywhere: Aurora Greenway and her daughter Emma.Aurora is the kind of woman who makes the whole world orbit around her, including a string of devoted suitors. Widowed and overprotective of her daughter, Aurora adapts at her own pace until life sends two enormous challenges her way: Emma's hasty marriage and subsequent battle with cancer. Terms of Endearment is the Oscar-winning story of a memorable mother and her feisty daughter and their struggle to find the courage and humor to live through life's hazards -- and to love each other as never before.

1. I currently live in the suburbs of Houston but would prefer living in the mountains (a place like Flagstaff, AZ).
2. The tagged book is set in Houston, although I prefer his other book set in Texas (Lonesome Dove).

Picked up a couple books at St. Vincent DePaul today! Haven‘t read the book before, but have obviously watched the movie and cried like a baby every time. I am expecting the same or worse when I read it.

I did not like it that much. The only good things about it was the superb writing and the memorable characters. However, I did not really like the plot. I got a feeling that this was supposed to be a mother-daughter book but it really wasn't. The ending was actually pretty good but I think the author wasted a lot of pages for that. The beginning was too detailed and silly while the ending was too rushed and dramatic. No balance for this book.

Halfway through this for the #rorygilmorereadingchallenge and 2 things strike me. 1:why is Emma with
Flap? what an grade A asshole and 2: Are Ignatius Reilly and Aurora Greenway the same person in different states/books?

If this were movies I would impress you all with Pasa-get-down-dena's Urban Cowboy fame. But alas...I checked on Goodreads and this is about all we've got. There are scenes in Houston in Cronin's The Passage and The Martian, but I'm trying to not cheat. Although I liked those books too. But I love McMurtry. #ReadJanuary #setinyrcity

Do you guys read multiple books at a time? I have my night book and day book. This has been my night book for a few weeks now and I'm not loving it as much as Lonesome Dove but it's good.

Natasha.C.Barnes Aw, really? That's too bad. Have you ever checked out the other books that are supposed to go with Lonesome Dove? I've meant to... 7y
mbakija I know. None stack up to Lonesome Dove! 7y
AriannaRebolini @mbakija it's true!! @Natasha.c.barnes I haven't, but also have meant to... we'll see! 7y

Sometimes it seems like Larry McMurtry casually tosses off one of these life-changing observations about once every ten pages.

SGJ He's one of the best, yep. The Last Picture Show hit me like I think Catcher in the Rye hit others: in a way I still feel. 8y
tkmadden @SGJ same on Last Picture Show 8y
