Tonight my local NPR station had an online event with All Things Considered‘s Ari Shapiro and I thought my Litsy friends would like this paraphrase of one thing he said.
“To gain empathy, read great fiction. It‘s easy to pick up a book... and actually experience those interior lives for ourselves.”
This is so true! Reading is one of the best ways to open your mind to other lives.
NPR‘s favourite books of 2019!
I have read 7 of them. Bailed on 1. Still have 8 on the TBR. But that TBR pile is going to get bigger now...

1 - this happened today. @Soubhiville Your #StuffedStockingSwap should be there Friday! 😊 #SSS @Avanders (Sorry I forgot the card and had to stick it to the outside).
2 - did you all see the NPR book concierge?! http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2018/ I am loving it - so cool how you can filter down but different categories.
YAY!! It's available!! Am I the only person who anxiously awaits this list each year & then spends an embarrassing amount of time pouring over the list?? ❤️📚❤️📚
It sure is "best of" list time. Explore more than 350 books NPR staff and critics loved this year. http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2017/
I was thinking about what I listen to when I drive, and honestly, it's usually NPR. My commute isn't long enough for audiobooks, and I find the FM stations in my area almost always have commercials on during the time I'm in the car. I do get a lot of book recommendations from Morning Edition! #Drive #90sinJuly @Cinfhen @Robothugs
Not a book, but definitely a story! Super excited to delve into S-Town. Hopefully it's as fantastic as Serial.
Totally forgot about a meeting today that was held a little far away...about 90 minutes round trip...so I downloaded this at the last minute to keep me company. Technically not a book, but this series falls under the "audiobook" category on OverDrive and Hoopla so ? They're short (3-ish hours) compilations of first-hand accounts of historical eras. I've listened to Civil Rights, Women's Equality, Civil War, and WW2 so far, and they're all great.
So, I couldn't find a great book blurb but I did find this interesting article about the history of blurb-ing from NPR: http://www.npr.org/2015/09/27/429723002/forget-the-book-have-you-read-this-irres...
Enjoy! #bestbookblurbs #seasonsreadings2016
Yay, it's finally available!! I love the NPR Concierge of best books of the year!! 😍😍😍👏👏👏 https://apps.npr.org/best-books-2016/
NPR's Book Concierge is always my favorite year-end best books list. Not necessarily because they pick the best books (that's a matter of taste) but because of its breadth (picture books, comics, nonfiction, young adult!) and its design (so many filters!) I'm very eagerly awaiting its release tomorrow.
