Gone: Jack Caffery | Mo Hayder
13 posts | 19 read | 9 to read
Night is falling as murder detective Jack Caffrey arrives to interview the distraught victim of a car-jacking. What he hears horrifies him. The car was taken by force, and on the back seat was a passenger. An eleven-year-old girl. Who is still missing. Before long the jacker starts to communicate with the police. And Caffrey becomes certain that he is planning to take another car. And another child. Who is the car-jacker? How is he choosing his targets? And - most urgent of all - can Caffrey find the child? Before it's too late ...

Oh yes! The fifth book in the series is excellent! The last two before this one not so much. Something strange is going on - girls disappear, but who took them, what did he do/is he doing to them, where are they, and why is this happening? Filled with twists and turns, great characters and all in all an intriguing book. I highly recommend it! Jack Caffery is back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 stars

Andrew65 Great review and totally agree. Definitely back on track! 😊 5y

EadieB @Andrew65 Trying to finish July and August for Scarlet Feather. I‘m at beach house and my daughter from Virginia is here with my 12 year old granddaughter so a little hectic today and not much reading. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Family time is most important, the reading will still be there! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I probably finish the book later tonight after they go to sleep. lol 5y

Started the fifth book in the Jack Caffery series. Only 10 chapters in, but it‘s already a lot better than the last two books in the series. This one flows like a true thriller/mystery, and I‘m really enjoying it!

Andrew65 Totally agree, this one was much better. 5y

Thank goodness, this book was so much better than the previous two in the series. This took me back to the positive features of this series in book 1 and 2. Partially this was because Jack Caffery once again took the lead role, rather than Flea. Plenty of action, good characters, dialogue, plotting and with some interesting twists thrown in. I did work out who the kidnapper was but not long before it was revealed. Now for the next one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

EadieB Nice review! 5y

It‘s finally got to the top of the pile, and am starting Gone. Interesting to see where this takes the series after what happened at the end of the last book.

EadieB @Andrew65 Should be a good one! 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB That‘s good after the last two. Read the first three chapters and seems to have a better start, starting off with Jack. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Yes! It definitely is better than the last 2. 5y
Tove_Reads I‘ll hopefully get to start tomorrow. I have two looong books that are due tomorrow. That‘s why I‘m behind with Scarlet Feather, and I‘ve had no time to take part in the Silent Scream discussion. I‘ll catch up soon! 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I can relate to that after the past month or two. I‘m currently about 20% in and much better than the last couple so far. @julesG (edited) 5y

Andrew65 You‘re well prepared for the next 3 Jack Caffery Books. Not sure we have started Gone yet, I haven‘t but can jump in anytime. @Tove_Reads @EadieB 5y
julesG @Andrew65 Since I ordered books anyway I had to grab the two Caffery books, they were a Euro each. 5y
Andrew65 @julesG Great bargains! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I‘ve already read this one @julesG @Tove_Reads 5y
julesG @EadieB Eager beaver! 😉 5y
EadieB @julesG Yes! Getting ready for Poppet in August! 5y
julesG @EadieB I read Gone when it came out. That's why I wanted to reread it before starting Poppet, which I haven't read yet. Also, just for a second I thought that I might have lots of time to reread until August, but August starts next week already. Time flies... 5y
EadieB @julesG I know can‘t believe it‘s August next week! 5y
Tove_Reads @julesG @eadieb @andrew65 Was off grid for a few days (beer judging competition), but now I have time to read again. I canceled my weekend plans because we‘ll hit record high today, and I can‘t really handle the heat. I can start Gone today. Just finished Milkman. 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Most probably be Monday before I can get to Gone now. @julesG 5y
julesG @Tove_Reads Beer judging! I'd like to do that. 😉 Don't worry, I haven't started on Gone yet. It'll probably be Monday for me, too. @Andrew65 5y
Tove_Reads @julesg 300 of them. I only tried around 90. 5y
julesG @Tove_Reads Weeeeell. When I was born my father worked at a small local brewery and my mother was the small town librarian. I could so do it. I have books and beer in my genes. (300 sounds like a challenge though) 5y

Mo Hayder takes you to the edge! Stolen car with 11 year-old in the backseat. Is it a carjacking or a kidnapping? Jack Cafferty and Flea Marley race to put the pieces together. Chilling and captivating. Fast-paced plot. Fascinating characters. Shocking ending. 5th book in series. Can‘t wait to read next one. Recommended.

This is my favorite book in the series so far! The twists were great. Even with having read the next book out of order and knowing some of the outcomes, this still had me on the edge of my seat with suspense. I have really grown to love Jack and Flea in this series and how intricately their stories are mixing together.

Fifth book in the jack caffrey police procedural and ive got to say it was the best so far of the series. As with any such book a troubled police officer, a very clever villain and tension and twists galore - i rattled through it.
