Filthy & shameless, this memoir is wonderful.

Nope. This will be my last dalliance with Yuknavitch. I passionately hated the Book of Joan and intensely disliked this. I only picked it up because I mistook the name for Yelena Moskovich (sorry, Yelena). I hate Yuknavitch's sloppy, lazy writing that markets itself as real and uninhibited. There are brilliant moments where you can see what her writing could be of she dropped her juvenile, give-no-f*cks attitude that reads like a stroppy teenager.

This book was beautiful and painful to read. Very self-conscious.

This is a beautiful book.

Maybe recovering catholics turn to movies for salvation. I mean, in an informal poll that I took recently, a whole lot of ex-catholics seem unusually moved by film. The bigger and more epic the better. And we still really like sitting in the dark--if they ever get rid of movie theaters you are going to see a bunch of lapsed catholics wandering around in the street looking for a dark box to go sit inside so we can experience catharsis ...

Read the book and do not get the audiobook. She came across like Amanda Palmer performing on stage. Its too much, too much of an over the top dramatic performance for you to really hear the words. You need to read them for yourself.

Today's ebook acquisition is thanks to @BooksForEmpathy ! Saw the post on litsy, listened to the podcast on Lit Up and a few minutes later, I had three news books in my TBR pile! Sigh!
