Wow - the prologue hits you hard, even though you've known from the beginning of the first book.

I'm so enjoying this series! I've already got the 3rd on hold at my library (please, book gods, let it be available soon!). I've been reading the audiobooks & the narrator, Susan Denaker, does a great job of capturing the voices of the various characters. These books are so engaging & wholesome. This one was the perfect read for this time of year since it takes place during autumn. Such a delight! 4⭐️

Kiddo is loving this series, and I‘m so happy! We moved on immediately to the next one.
9-26 Jun 2021 (audiobook)
Maybe more happened in this second book, or maybe listening to snippets driving around is a better pace for the Penderwick series, but I enjoyed this more. I could relate to the sisters‘ alarm at the idea of their father dating and, particularly, Rosalind‘s offence that they are not enough for him and fearing a strange woman taking over her kitchen. But I reluctantly accept the outcome - IRL and the Penderwicks.
Determined to be more present & accountable on Litsy this week for #BFCR3. Made it to the gym this afternoon, and hit a lull in the crowd! 🎉 I was able to almost finish the pictured book. So, post gym, I‘m finishing the last few chapters & eating one of my favourite post workout snacks: high fiber whole wheat toast, peanut butter, banana, honey & a sprinkling of chia seeds. It‘s messy, but so delicious!

My favourite type of weekend includes a busy and full Saturday, and then a slow and relaxing Sunday. This weekend met both of these requirements. Yesterday was full of errands, household chores, surprise book mail and then a date night. Today, the kettle is on, I‘m trying a sample tea from Plum Deluxe included in a recent tea order and I‘m starting the second book in the Penderwicks series. 🌿📖☕️
The second book is also delightful! I‘m not sure it‘s quite as good as the first, but still so fun to read.
A sequel that lives up to the original! I just loved it and it‘s onto the next one 📚😊📚
This is my third completed book for #boutofbooks 📚📚📚 — it may be the last day of the readathon, but I have quite a stack to keep me occupied for a day of train travel and I have no doubts it will be my best reading day of the week!
Like the first Penderwicks book, this second installment was delightful (well, after a false start with an annoying audiobook narrator and getting it in print instead!). I greatly enjoyed the Penderwick family adventures as the girls attempted to rescue their father from their aunt‘s scheme of setting him up on dates. I saw where it was going right from the beginning, but that didn‘t mean I didn‘t enjoy getting there. 💜 the Penderwick sisters!
He laughed, but his laugh was part groan. “Cruciatus.”
“In English, please.”
Then the adults went into the living room. If a translation was given, it wasn‘t heard by the three upstairs. Skye and Jane looked hopefully at Rosalind.
She shrugged. “I don‘t know cruciatus yet.”
“You need to hurry up and learn more Latin,” said Jane. “Or we‘ll never know what‘s going on.”
(Apparently the Penderwicks haven‘t read Harry Potter.)
Happily spending some time with the Penderwicks this morning. There will be a mid-day interlude of getting my taxes done, followed by a matinee of Ready Player One with book group friends.
Well, I guess I‘ve figured out what my next “just for me” non-buddy-read book is going to be!
Edited to add: Holy crap, I‘ve never turned off an audiobook so fast!! Not even five minutes in, and I was done with the narrator using a whiny babyish voice for at least two of the sisters. Nope. Can‘t. Gonna have to switch to print for this one.
“Jane,“ she said, climbing down from the chair. “Remember last year when I built that model wind tower for you and you wrote those poems for me?“
“And you said you'd never switch homework assignments with me again.“
