So working through my own physical tbr this month I pre-selected 3 dated chick-lIts from the tagged author. Going into this, I decided I was going to have fun with it. It‘s a story not unlike The Devil Wears Prada, but the MC, Bette, is at least having fun in the crazy PR job she landed in NYC. It was fun to be reminded of 2005 pop culture, celebrity couples, and technology - flip phones, iPods and blackberries, and no instagram selfies!
I actually made it through this book, hopeful it would improve. I‘ve definitely enjoyed other books by this author, but this one seemed like a light effort. While it was kind of fun to imagine a party lifestyle of a NYC event planner, the characters were very shallow and one dimensional, even the protagonist and her friend. I got really impatient with the repeated stereotypical descriptions of her gay uncle and hippie parents.
Ugh. I‘m about halfway through this book and I can‘t stand any of the characters. Talk about superficial, unlikeable types. The protagonist is killing me. She‘s got this little dog that I don‘t think she‘s taken outside of her Manhattan apartment for a walk once on the 200 pages I‘ve read. She‘s got a crush on a total jerk of a man. She knows he‘s a complete ass, yet because he‘s incredibly handsome, she excuses it. Ugh. Ugh.
Very fast but very entertaining read. It's a total chick-lit but those always leave me feeling satisfied with how things wrap up, so who am I to complain about chick-lit?
As much as I love reading about the field in which I practice for a living, it's time to shake things up and go back to chick lit for my next read.

This is the second book that I have bailed on by this author which is pretty disappointing. I don't get a lot of enjoyment out stories of young people trying to make it in New York. I was a devout fan of Sex in the City and these books feel like a replica of that storyline, from the clubs that they frequent and the restaurants they dine in, right down to the Birkin bag "it's a lifestyle not just a purse" speech.
I‘ve had this one on my tbr for years & I figured it would be decent vaycay reading. While it was a fairly light & breezy read, I ended up feeling disappointed. Props to Weisberger for her engaging and intelligent writing. But overall, the story left me feeling kinda yucky. I realize that this is likely to be an authentic depiction of the PR world in New York, but it was all a bit sordid and tacky. I guess it just wasn't my thing. 2/5⭐️
It‘s overcast today in St. Lucia, but at 28 degrees, I‘m not complaining! I‘m just getting into this book, and so far, it‘s good vacation reading. 👍🏽
To be honest, this book is okay. Maybe I'm not really into this kind of chick lit because it involves a lot of social activities which aren't my thing at all (except for the book club meeting) I won't deny also the fact that the plot is flat, there are no events that heighten the story that can at least give the readers some attachment to the work.
I must say that even though it's not as hype as any other, this one is still worth trying to read.

I needed a light read after Between Shades of Gray. I probably won't be recommending this to anyone, but it kept me entertained. Disclaimer: Sometimes the entertainment came from laughing at how ridiculously unrealistic some of the scenarios were! #LitsyAtoZ #E✔
