Don't look at me like my mum did when I bought a children's book.

But this book means something for me. I spotted this version with this brilliantly colored cover on Amazon.
And just could not resist myself.
Too much Nostalgia can be bad for your pockets.

The book is about Heidi, a young orphan girl and her story of making new friends, falling in love with the countryside. And the turmoils that ensures when she is taken away from there. 💕

wanderinglynn Love this story! ❤️ And I buy so-called “children‘s” books all the time. A story is a story no matter who the target audience. 5y

'The Mortal Instruments Series' by Cassandra Claire.

This is technically the first time I am dipping my toes into the genre of YA / Modern / Urban Fantasy.

It follows Clary Fray (who interacts with a group of nephilim known as Shadowhunters) while also discovering her own heritage. The Shadowhunters protect the world of mundane people, from dark forces beyond their world. (Such as Vampires, Werewolves, faeries, ghosts and monsters)
___

Serotonin I also recommend the graphic novel version (which just released its 2nd volume) 5y

Sorry, for being so Infrequent in Litsy, these days!!!🙏
I've been caught with my Exams & a terrible reading slump.
Have not been able to read much, and is mainly focused into books in bengali (My Mothertongue)...So, I haven't read any English books recently (& that's a shame).
Hoping to be back soon enough and be more frequent in Litsy.
Missing those great conversations with fellow readers, like @Bookwomble, @sudi,to name a few
✌☺

Tiyas7 @TheReadingMermaid I'm really trying hard to complete 'Salem's Lot' for our 3King BuddyRead in July, but I really can't guarantee 😳 6y

Semi Autobiographical in nature, I've been engrossed in certain parts of this book so much, that it has been a hard time coming back to reality😭.....and certain parts of it, just put me too sleep.😪
Hands down one of the most conflicting/polarising books I've read in my life✋✋

Well, Idk if it's a popular book or not...but I really really hate 'The Bourne Identity'.
It was a bestseller upon its publication, the successful thriller series, is still on going, long after Robert Ludlum 's death. And we all know how Matt Damon 's tearing it up as Jason Bourne.
However.....😧
Believe me I tried to finish this book, lumbered to almost 450 pages, then got scared of more 150 pages of excruciating boredom, and bailed.😧

@Libby1

Pickpick

A fascinating book, wrapped with weirdness, focusing on the last gunslinger, Roland Of Gilead.
The characters in the book are really flawed(yes, even Jake) allowing them to be sternly rooted within reality.
Was the book off putting? Slow? Yes it was.
As, King himself noted, that "the story really found its voice in 'The Drawing of the Three' ".
So, Stop Palavering & Stick With the Book!!! It's a really gritty beginning to a long long journey.✌

Well This might not be a popular opinion, but my favourite Agatha Christie novel is, 'Death Comes As The End'(Ancient Egypt meets Mystery, and being a history lover.....😅)
And, I have received a plethora of flak for this before. As I didn't like 'And Then There Were None' that much. (Weird, huh?)

Which is your favourite novel written by the Queen Of Crime?
#acforever

Librarybelle Mine is And Then There Were None...it gives me chills every time I read it! I‘m reading her books in publication order through the #agathachristieclub . 6y
Tiyas7 @Librarybelle You are reading them Chronologically?? 'ATTWN' is one of Christie's most chilling works for sure. But by the time I read it, one of my frnd had already spoiled the ending to me. So the surprise factor diminished to a great extent.😧 And Also Happy Bday again😊 6y
Librarybelle @Tiyas7 Thank you! Yes - it‘s a club set up by @Bambolina_81 that takes one Christie a month, based on chronological publication order. We started last summer, so it will take some time. I‘m a tad behind, but it‘s been fun to see Christie‘s writing progression. Spoiler endings do make it hard to enjoy a book - totally understand. I have yet to read your favorite. She‘s written so many good ones! 6y

I am reading 'The Gunslinger' right now.

However while reading, whenever I am trying to picturise Roland. Idris Elba's coming up in my mind.(and with him, the stench of the horrible adaptation)
Elba's insanely badass for sure, but I'd have liked to visualise The Gunslinger as someone like Clint 's Man With No Name or Viggo's Aragorn.(After all King wrote the series being inspired by the 2 iconic serieses)

The Movie Adaptation was just Awful😢

On a side note, I was just about to stack it for you, got confused because I thought I already had it in my read pile, and then realized your tagged version was different than mine. Litsy needs to fix that. One version of each book. Or link all versions. A link for one is a link for all. My OCD would not allow me to double read a book. (edited) 6y
Tiyas7 @Weaponxgirl Exactly Elba's Awesome 6y
Tiyas7 @LiterRohde Yep!! I Agree👍 6y
LizBurton I refused to consider the film after I saw the trailer. What is the point of turning a book about an ironic character, casting a superb actor in the role, and then making the movie about the white kid? 6y
Scurvygirl If you never read the books, the movie is great. My brother thought it was awesome. He is also not a fan of Stephen King. I went in knowing it wouldn‘t be the same, but it was so far from the book, they should all be ashamed. And I agree about Roland‘s character, more of a western, shoot em up actor. 6y

Horror, a genre looked down upon by many, while refusing to treat it as a 'Real' Literature.
I Have Crossed Path with many such people, who scoffs whenever I suggest them books about the Supernatural.

But as I can see, There are a Lot Of Horror Fanatics in Litsy!!! And I am glad I Found People, whose life revolves around Poe, Lovecraft, Stoker & King to name a few.

Well Just Asking, Who is Your Favourite Horror Writer???😱

AmyG King but Josh Malerman (is he considered a horror writer?) is becoming a favorite. Loved Bird Box. (edited) 6y
Tiyas7 @AmyG He can be considered I guess as he deals a lot with Psychological/Post Apocalyptic Horror and stuff 6y
Kaye I don‘t read many of this type books ( not because I don‘t like them), but because I can‘t find ones I like. I know they are popular, but some tend to remind me of romances, in the way they all have the same framework for their story , but just change the names. I‘ve read some of King‘s and liked them Josh Malerman ( Bird Box ) was stunningly impressive. I‘d like to find more like THAT. Any ideas ??? (edited) 6y

Tiyas7 @Kaye I Know Mordern horrors are often marred by Clichés and stereotypes, that's a sad truth 6y
DieAReader I haven‘t read a lot of Horror per say aside from a King stint in High School. I do have more of his as well as some Poe & some Lovecraft in my TBR. Maybe I‘ll wait for October? Who knows. 6y
Bookwomble If you like Lovecraft them you might consider the horror stories of his contemporary and epistolary friend, Robert E. Howard. "Pigeons from Hell" is a very creepy Southern Gothic story featuring his creation the "zuvembie". When the Comics Code clamped down on horror comics and banned zombies from Code-compliant comics, Marvel adopted the name of Howard's creature instead. 6y
Tiyas7 @Bookwomble Thanks!!! I'll check it out 6y
Tiyas7 @Kaye Clive Barker 's books are great too. And if you want to know from where all these tropes (known now as Clichés😂) actually originated, then go for the classics!!! 6y

Kaye @rohit-sawant Is horror mainly what you read ? You sure named off a lot 😲 (edited) 6y
AmyG @rohit-sawant Thanks for that list. 6y
Tiyas7 @AmyG He Actually Helped us a lot Unknowingly 😃 6y
AmyG Right??? Lucky us. ;) 6y
Tiyas7 @AmyG Damn True!!😂 6y
RohitSawant @Kaye Not really. I do have a soft spot for horror fiction, and it's mainly what I write, however, so part of delving into it deeply is educating myself about the genre along with enjoying the stories, but I love reading across genres and try to make my TBR as varied as I can! 6y
RohitSawant @AmyG My pleasure! :) 6y
Tiyas7 @rohit-sawant You Write Stories?? Where Can I Read Them?? 6y
Weaponxgirl I love a good horror but find it hard to find something I like, how I am with the genre in movies too. I love the likes of Poe, Shirley Jackson, Susan hill and adored dark matter by Michelle paver. Also really like the tagged book recently. 6y
Tiyas7 @Weaponxgirl Yes, sometimes It's real hard to find 'the' Horror that checks all the boxes! 6y
RohitSawant @Tiyas7 Appreciate your interest in my work! I've been fortunate enough to have some of my short stories published in anthologies & magazines. You can drop by the link in my profile for more details. In case you're interested, I'd be happy to share a digital copy of one of the anthos! 6y
Tiyas7 @rohit-sawant That's Great😀 6y
RohitSawant @Tiyas7 Cool! Drop me a line at rohitsawantfiction [at] gmail [dot] com 6y
Tiyas7 @rohit-sawant I Myself write a bit, but I've not been that 'Fortunate' enough, and all my works are happily rotting in my diaries (a place they must be 4 ever, cause they're awful😃). But will surely like to check your works😊👍 6y
Tiyas7 @rohit-sawant Will Do Soon!!✌ 6y
BeansPage Ooooooooo gods help me, there are WAY too many. I started to write my list but I got way too big LOL I will say though my all-time favorite will always be Poe. He was no less than a genius among men when it came to writing. Second only to PO would have to be Lovecraft in my book. I love his writing style and sentence structure. It is very smooth and elegant and though it was written so long ago is still very easy to follow and easy to scare 😉 6y
BookwormAHN Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Clive Barker, Edgar Allan Poe & Joe Hill 🎈 6y
Tiyas7 @Syndelle777 Poe Was Unique In His Approach!! Just Love Him!!! And Lovecraft, despite all his character flaws, was a Magician of weaving fearful thoughts. 6y
Tiyas7 @BookwormAHN Guess No Lists can be completed without Poe & King!!! And Barker is an awesome pick too 6y
kidamy I have a lot I like, but Robert Bloch💀, Ramsay Campbell👹, and Lovecraft 👾 top my list. 💕 6y
Bookish_AF Stephen King! 6y
ReadZenRites She usually classified as a psychological thriller writer, but Tess Gerritsen usually scares the 💩 out of me. 6y
EricQiao King, of course, but he hasn‘t really scared me in a while. The last book I read that gave me the creeps was 6y
Reggie Barker was my favorite because he, there is no other way to put this other than, he was the one that told me love and shit, magic and horror all existed in the same world. He was the one who I stayed up until 2-3a.m. at our kitchen table when I was a teenager reading The Great and Secret Show, Everville, Weaveworld. Robert McCammon is my other favorite- The Border, A Boy‘s Life, Swan Song, Blue World. 6y
Tiyas7 @Reggie Well Said👍 6y

Pickpick

The book is a gripping read about the advent of the Mughal Empire in India.
With Babur As His Protagonist, Rutherford uses History and merges it with his imagination to turn this into a royal epic. Helping us to understand a Ruler, burdened by the lofty heights of the achievements of his predecessors.
Babur's struggle to achieve what he liked to believe as his destiny and the effect this had on his relationships is a truly exhilarating read

DGRachel That looks really interesting! 6y
Tiyas7 @DGRachel It Really Is!! This is actually the first installment in the series. There are six books in total , each focusing on a single Mughal Emperor in a chronological order!! 6y
DGRachel I love good, epic historical fiction. I will have to get my hands on this soon. 😊 6y
Tiyas7 @DGRachel Hope You Enjoy It !!☺ 6y

'Quoth The Raven Nevermore' - E.A Poe

Sometimes I Think If I Read 'The Raven' a thousand times in succession.I Believe It will succesfully find a thousand different ways to induce terror & uneasiness, that too with relative ease.

Bronte_Chintz Brilliant poem. One of my faves, although I now sometimes visualise Bart Simpson as the raven still thanks to that show 😂😂 6y
Tiyas7 @Bronte_Chintz That Was One Of The Best (Hilarious 😂) Adaptations Of The Poem 😂😂 6y
Bronte_Chintz @Tiyas7 iI really was! It‘s still what I see now! 😂😂 6y
