so-soI don't usually read magical realism books, but because A.S. King wrote it, I gave it a shot. I told myself I could stop reading it, but at some point it sucked me in and I had to find out if Stanzi would be okay. Peeling back the layers, this book is about everyone who has to deal with stuff in life. The death of a sibling, alcoholism, rape, sexual abuse, rejected love, feeling invisible ... And on some level, we can all relate to this.

pickI Crawl Through It is a surrealist YA novel that uses magical realism elements to highlight the absurd contradiction of teens being forced to function normally and take endless multiple-choice tests in a world where nothing is being done to protect them against school shootings and bomb threats. It's about how we have so much horror happening that it becomes our new normal. It's a book that's difficult and strange but also makes perfect sense. 5⭐️

Currently reading and loving this super weird surrealist YA that's actually really relevant in light of the recent school shootings. It talks about the absurdity of asking students to continue functioning normally in a crazy world. I'm about 1/3 of the way through.
This will be the first ever audiobook I'll actually finish! :D

I've been bad about keeping up with photo challenges, but couldn't resist #weirdestbook. In part, because I really enjoy weird books. And this book is weird! pickThis book might have turned my mind inside out. Give it a shot, it might seem like nonsense but it rings too true. This is possibly the most unsettling view of teenage minds dealing with trauma.

I read this during a readathon in October, and quickly ran through the rest of her books. I was just wishing for a new A.S. King book to read so she is my woman crush at the moment @BookishFeminist (I did apparently miss one so I'm going to find it at the library asap)
so-soI loved Please Ignore Vera Dietz, so I was hopeful about this novel. This surreal story gave voice to these young women's painful experiences but it was difficult for me to connect with the characters.
I'll be honest, I'm not 100% sure what was happening in this book. That being said, I loved every page.
My newest recommendation @bookculture! (A.S. King) "Life in I CRAWL THROUGH IT is both totally surreal and all too realistic. Characters struggle with things both literal and metaphorical in this stunning, difficult, and weird book. The payoff is worth being unsettled and uncertain."
pickAs usual with A.S King books, you're in for a really weird treat. I personally love magic realism and the strange so her books are always a hit for me. If you do pick this one up, try not to be too skeptical.
