Reading challenge prompt: a classic by a Black woman. I didn‘t want to go with an author I‘d read before, and found this in my searching. It is just the kind of book I loved as a kid, so I grabbed it up. Excited to start it now!

GirlNamedJesse I remember loving this book so much in fifth grade that I bought my own copy to keep! 2y

Another children's classic I hadn't read, but I think if I had I would have been scared by it. I found all the different covers interesting. #Screamathon #Scarathlon2021 #TeamSlaughter #SpookoweenReadathon #Wickedathon @4thhouseontheleft @Clwojick @TheSpineView @StayCurious

This was required reading when I was in grade school and I wanted to revisit it to see what I thought today. The ending feels slightly rushed and not as eerily dramatic as the rest, but I loved rediscovering the themes and history involved in this book. A well-paced read that doubles as an excellent educational tool for all ages!

Just a note: To fully experience this book I also recommend reading up on the history of author Virginia Hamilton!

It's time for the #Throwbackreadathon! I know my TBR stack is very ambitious (especially since I'm still waiting for Encyclopedia Brown from the library), but I'm going for it! Now, where should I start...
@monalyisha @Clwojick

monalyisha Yesss! I‘m in the same boat! I‘m going to post my #throwbackstack shortly, too! I vote for something short & sweet to start off with, like the Beverly Cleary or BSC. 🙌🏻 @ReadingsByTheC (edited) 6y
MatchlessMarie Yasss to EB! I started re-reading through that series last year. One of my favorites as a kid. I think I‘m on #10. 6y
ReadingsByTheC @monalyisha Let's see what kind of looks I get on the train to work reading BSC. 😅 6y

ReadingsByTheC @MatchlessMarie EB Is the best! I've got four coming from the library. I was so disappointed when I bought my daughter one a few years ago and she didn't like it. 😣 6y
MatchlessMarie @ReadingsByTheC Oh no! Last year I finally completed my bailey school kids collection. I hope my kid likes them when he‘s old enough. 😅 6y
Clwojick Ooh, I just started Are You There God? Its Me, Margaret. And I have already laughed out loud a few times. I can see why I loved it as a young girl. 6y
ReadingsByTheC @MatchlessMarie I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.😊 6y
ReadingsByTheC @Clwojick It's so great! 6y
TK-421 I have the same Mother Goose book! 6y
TamarackTrail I had those little classic books too. My favorite part of them is that some had animated pictures if you flipped through the pages quickly 6y
Q84 The back 2 were some of my favorites! I still have them somewhere around here 6y
ReadingsByTheC @TK-421 Isn't it the best? I don't think they make it anymore, I was looking for one for a friend and they had one with the same cover but the insides were different. 6y
ReadingsByTheC @TamarackTrail No way! I never knew that. I'm going to try it tonight when I get home. 6y
ReadingsByTheC @Q84 You should reread them this weekend for the #Throwbackreadathon 😉 6y

LauraBrook @MicheleinPhilly I hadn't heard of it before, but your rave gets me pumped to read it! They had a few others on the cart from the 028 section, and I'm tempted to go back and look at the rest of them again. 7y
