The Heat
The Heat | Heather Killough-Walden
7 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Lily St. Claire is a southern girl, born and raised, and she has a soft spot in her heart for Baton Rouge. But when she returns after being out of town for a few years, she finds that things have changed. Katrina rearranged the citys face, there are more people, the streets are meaner, and most importantly, the boy she had a crush on her entire childhood is all grown up. In a big, bad way.
Daniel Kane is the youngest police chief Baton Rouge has ever known. Standing well over two meters high, with a hard body, jet black hair that needs a cut, eyes like blue slate, and a quick mind, not much gets past him. But what could hold more sway than a handsome, young, competent chief of police? A handsome, young, competent chief of police who also happens to be a werewolf. And not just any werewolf, but an alpha.
Yet, all that power doesnt seem to mean a damn thing when it comes to claiming the one thing he wants more than anything on Earth the girl who, as far as he is concerned, was meant for him: Lily St. Claire. Not only is Lily head-strong, independent, and more than a little capable of slipping through his tightly gripped fingers, it turns out, Daniels not the only one whos ready to claim her as his mate. And as bad luck would have it for Chief Kane, his competition is also an alpha werewolf.
And a notorious cold-blooded killer.

It's October 2nd, and all I can think about is the heat. I can't even adult right now. Where oh where is autumn? We have what's called a heat dome hanging over us, and nothing is making it move out of here. And I'm sorry to be a downer, but it literally has a choke-hold on me right now. #burningupinphoenix 🔥🔥🔥

willaful Ugh, so hard to live through. We\'re having a heat spell too, but nothing like so bad. 3mo
Deblovestoread Sounds miserable! Hoping for a break for you soon! 3mo

Humidity matters! 😅 Somehow I‘m sitting out on the porch swing in this horrid weather. This goes in streaks in MN, so we do get a break from it. But I keep repeatedly wondering how you Littens in other parts of the world manage it for long periods. It makes me so lethargic and unmotivated, and the air conditioning is so stinking cold then. 😂

InLibrisVeritas I live in GA, and humidity is completely normal here. Some days it feels like you are underwater. I am pretty used to it though and prefer the summer. 7y
InLibrisVeritas Being cold, even slightly cold, makes me super sleepy. I prefer warmth of any kind, even the suffocating kind. 😅 7y
Tamra @InLibrisVeritas I suppose you acclimate, but it would take me a long time I think. 7y

knittedgnome I'm in MI and it's like that here today too. Yuck! I hate the humidity but don't mind being warm. AZ weather was better than this!! 7y
Tamra @knittedgnome must be a big system. I see it‘s supposed to break by tomorrow. 🤞🏾🤞🏾 (edited) 7y
robinb I was raised in Mississippi and now live in Alabama, and I have NEVER acclimated to the humidity. 🤣 I prefer what little cold we have. 7y
Tamra @robinb I feel for you. 7y
SilversReviews It is hot here in Pittsburgh today too, but low humidity. I have been outside for most of the day. I LOVE the heat. :) 7y
Reviewsbylola That‘s about what it is here. It feels like I‘m stepping into a sauna when I got outside. 7y
robinb @Tamra 🤗🤗 7y
Tamra @Reviewsbylola yes, sauna is an apt word 7y
RebelReader Glad I‘m in AZ right now. 98 degrees but only 15% humidity so feels pretty darn nice! 😀 7y
Tamra @RebelReader I‘d trade you! 😆 98 in the shade when it‘s dry is just fine and when the sun sets....ahhhhhhh. 7y
SaraBeagle Humid in Omaha too- we had heat advisories all weekend. Just miserable 😓 7y

For all my preparation, I was not prepared for a power outage on this 100 degree day! Shutting down my devices to save power. I don't do well in heat. That's why I live in Portland! 😬Carry on, Littens! #LitsyPartyOfOne
