I‘ve never been disappointed by a Freakonomics work!

This book has been sitting in my audible library since November. It was probably an impulse buy. It's OK. Some interesting stories that entertained me while walking.

RamsFan1963 I liked it, but not as much as the previous books, Freakonomics and Super Freakonomics 4y

Did some #audiowalking this morning with the tagged book.

May I kvetch for a moment? The cultural park is basically the backyard of our neighborhood. There's a theater and art museum there. However, it's an incredibly popular place at all times. This can make for some not so peaceful walking- people listening to their music without earphones while they run, singing along LOUDLY with their music and lawnmowers. And I *was* using earphones! 👇

Sace It's an almost daily experience. Especially the loud singers. What the hell? 4y
TheBookHippie Kvetch away... I try to sit on my patio and hear a barking 24 hours straight dog everyday my own dog looks at my like what in the world mom tell it to be quiet 😫 4y
Sace @TheBookHippie we've got a barker too. My dream would be a house in the middle of no where, but alas this house is paid for and it would seem silly to move now. (Plus we can't bear to leave the strays that we feed.) 4y

TheBookHippie @Sace Ha that‘s Mr BookHippies dream! I want to be in a huge city by the ocean . Two noises I love🤣. 4y
Melkyl I am always amazed that people don‘t seem to care that they are bothering others. My very nice neighbor works outside and plays his music so loud I can hear it in my house. I live on almost 3 acres, so we aren‘t that close. It baffles me that people are either clueless or just don‘t care. 4y
Sace @TheBookHippie I would love to have a house on the North Florida Gulf Coast circa 1960s (way too much development there now.) 4y
Sace @Melwilk our houses are so close together in our neighborhood. I would say less than 20 feet separates each house. 4y
TheBookHippie @Sace California for me 💙 4y
Sace @TheBookHippie Costa Rica would be nice too. 4y

Went out for some #audiowalking at a nearby park. I just threw in the picture of random stray cats begging at my patio door (this was even AFTER they had a can of food!)

Bookzombie Those are cute kitties! 4y
Sace @Bookzombie thanks! 4y
AlaMich Oh my! I‘m a sucker for tuxedos! 😻😻 4y

Sace @AlaMich Ditto! The one on the right has had kittens. I have no idea where they are. As soon as I find them they are all coming to live with me! 4y
Bette I love tuxedos too (miss the one we had) 👍❤️ 4y
AlaMich Ooohh, send one to me! 4y

So much great info packed in this book, which clocks in at a little over 5 hrs (7hrs if you count the bonus podcast episodes).

#TIL : our biases and preconceptions get in our way. Think small. Don‘t fear saying “I don‘t know” or even quitting. Look at a problem from a different angle. Think like a child.

I‘m definitely going to pick up a hard copy so I can highlight, underline, & take notes.

Book 1 done for #nfNov

Starting off #nfNov with this audiobook. Only 26 minutes in (the into & chapter 1) & I‘ve already learned a lot. I may have to buy the physical book so I can highlight & take notes.

But one quick thing I‘ve learned are the 3 hardest words to say are “I don‘t know.” #TIL

Sace I just bought the audiobook thanks to this post. It must have been on sale.... It was only $3.95! 4y
wanderinglynn @Sace Awesome! I‘ve really enjoyed it. So much info. 4y

Picked up this book for a change a pace and really enjoyed it. Too often in politics or business or in our personal lives we get led astray by fuzzy thinking or dogmatism. The authors outline a series of guidelines to help avoid poor conclusions and to generate new approaches to problems. Lots of useful guidance. It doesn‘t purport to offer answers rather techniques for finding them on your own. The writing style was quite engaging.

Trollkonstnaren I think I want to read this :D I am interested in how to improve myself by breaking (insane) standards. 5y

The points and stories were interesting, as you would expect from these authors. However, I felt like there was little to no depth on any one topic and few practical tips on how to implement the ideas. I would have liked, for example, a simple methodology for constructing experiments.

jillrhudy I enjoyed it while reading it, but none of it “stuck.” 6y
thebluestocking @jillrhudy I think that‘s exactly what will happen for me. 6y

Sometimes I'm in the mood for a book that makes me, well, think. This book is a collection of stories/examples of successfully thinking outside-the-box. Three stars for the audio version. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
