Althea and Oliver | Cristina Moracho
Althea Carter and Oliver McKinley have been best friends since they were six; she's the fist-fighting instigator to his peacemaker, the artist whose vision balances his scientific bent. Now, as their junior year of high school comes to a close, Althea has begun to want something more than just best friendship.

Althea and Oliver is a book about two best friends. Oliver has a sleeping disease which causes him to sleep at long periods of time. Althea is in love with Oliver and always waits for him to wake up so she can be with him again. They are close all of the story until Althea tells Oliver that she took advantage of him when he was sleeping. Oliver was mad and left for New York with his mom because there was a doctor there who could help him.

Jennifer.wiberg When Althea finds out she runs goes after him and drives to NewYork after lying to her dad. Oliver finds out when he gets there and they become friends again. The two both return home to finish high school but agree for no romantic relationship. 5y
Jennifer.wiberg I would suggest this book if you like teen romance and a story with a lot of twists to teenage love life. 5y
Jennifer.wiberg The story is written in third person point of view. I know this because the author used words like “he” and “she” instead of “I”. The author is explaining the events of what is happening. She is not telling a story about something that happened in her life. 5y
MissYaremcio Great work Jennifer! Thank you for posting your review! It sounds like a book I would enjoy! 5y

Althea and Oliver is a book about two best friends who have grown up together. The two look and act like twins but are different. There is one problem, Althea is starting to catch strong feelings for Oliver, but he continually goes into a coma for weeks at a time. When he wakes up Althea catches more and more feelings and it crushes her as soon as goes back asleep. Despite that, they go on many adventures that always ends in them getting closer.

Jennifer.wiberg I recommend this book if you enjoy young teen romance or best friend relationships. Friendship is a recurring motif in this book. It is very important because no matter what happens Althea and Oliver always come back to each other. They make some mistakes and get one another mad but they can‘t be away from each other for too long. Even as Oliver goes to sleep Althea stays there for him so he doesn‘t have to be alone. She takes care of him. 5y
Jennifer.wiberg Without friendship, there would be nothing for this book to rely on, for the fact that the love in this book is all based on how they‘ve been so close all their lives. 5y
MissYaremcio Well done Jennifer! This looks like a book I would enjoy! 6/6 5y

I am not sure how to feel about this book. I really liked Oliver's character all the way through the book, I liked Althea too but could not stand her after (spoiler alert) I found out what she did to Oliver. I forced myself to finish this book just so I could try to understand why she did what she did.

2 out of the 5 dogs at my parents' house right now. I'm watching them for an hour. Charlie (the one on the left) is causing the most chaos. He's the puppy of the group.

I really struggled with my last book. I DNF'd it with less than 50 pages left. Now I'm onto this one. I'm hoping I'll like it way more. 🖤

I made myself walk to Barnes & Noble because the past few months I've barely been leaving my house again. I've struggled with agoraphobia most of my life and the best advice I've gotten for it is to make myself leave my comfort zone. Exposure therapy is a big thing I still need to push myself to do. But I had a period of time when I didn't leave my mom's house for 3 years. Except for doctor's appointments.
I'd say I've come a long way.

JoScho Good for you. I find the more I stay home the harder it is to go out. 7y
blondie @JoScho I think so too! Which is why I was a little worried about saying "Maybe tomorrow" because I probably would've been more nervous than I was today. 7y

cobwebmoth Hooray for small victories! *hugs* 7y
JoScho Yeah in the summer I get pretty bad about not wanting to leave the house. My crazy dog is a great excuse to stay home but I have been going out once a week for groceries and that is better than nothing. Just know you are not alone 💙 7y
Reviewsbylola That‘s awesome! I have mild agoraphobia that has luckily been better in recent years, but I can totally relate. ❤️❤️ 7y
MicheleinPhilly Good for you! I‘ve been there and it definitely flares up in the summer because...HEAT. 😩 But Pickles has pushed me out of my comfort zone in a lot of ways. Baby steps are important and you should celebrate your progress today. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 7y
TheFunkyBookworm Good for you! As @cobwebmoth said- celebrate the small victories 💜💜💜 7y
blondie @cobwebmoth Thank you 🙂💜💙🖤 7y
blondie @JoScho Yes! Even if it's grocery shopping, I think it's still good. It's still something to be proud of. Some things may look like small steps to others, but feel like such large steps to us. And that's okay ♡ We are all different :) 7y
blondie @Reviewsbylola I have only met 2 other people with agoraphobia! I'm glad to know there's other people out there. Not that I'm happy you have it. But I'm happy I'm not alone and I'm happy you're doing better with it ♡ 7y
blondie @MicheleinPhilly Yess! I do better in the fall to be honest. More motivation and less heat. That's good! Dogs are great like that :) and thank you♡ 7y
blondie @TheFunkyBookworm Thank you so much 💙🖤💜 7y
cobwebmoth And I hope you know that I wasn't trying to belittle your accomplishment by calling it a "small" victory. I really do know how hard it is.? 7y

Pickpick

First time reading a book with the main character having the same name as me, so it kinda feels weird having to see book "me" be sort of a misunderstood wild child.

An unusual plot wherein the male protagonist has a disease that makes him sleep for an indefinite time && there are short "wake cycles" where he takes on a bipolar personality.

Overall, I loved the book. A great debut novel!
