A healer who cannot be healed . . . When Zivah falls prey to the deadly rose plague, she knows it's only a matter of time before she fully succumbs. Now she's destined to live her last days in isolation, cut off from her people and unable to practice her art-until a threat to her village creates a need that only she can fill. A soldier shattered by war . . . Broken by torture at the hands of the Amparan Empire, Dineas thirsts for revenge against his captors. Now escaped and reunited with his tribe, he'll do anything to free them from Amparan rule-even if it means undertaking a plan that risks not only his life but his very self. Thrust together on a high-stakes mission to spy on the capital, the two couldn't be more different: Zivah, deeply committed to her vow of healing, and Dineas, yearning for vengeance. But as they grow closer, they must find common ground to protect those they love. And amidst the constant fear of discovery, the two grapple with a mutual attraction that could break both of their carefully guarded hearts. This smart, sweeping fantasy with a political edge and a slow-burning romance will capture fans of The Lumatere Chronicles and An Ember in the Ashes.

Zivan, a healer that can‘t be healed teams up with Dineas, a warrior made into double agent, in which, due to Zivan‘s potions temporarily erasing his memories. I liked this book, though I found it to be slow at many points and hard at times to hold interest.

Jerlynn I completely agree with you, I just read this book like a week ago and had the same thoughts 5y

This book was just okay for me. I don't have any issues with it exactly but as far as the characters and the plot goes... It just didn't really resonate with me. I will say that it was a very quick read for me, and although I'm probably not gonna pick up book 2, I still enjoyed this book and don't regret reading it.

booklover984 It's so weird that we can enjoy books but not resonate with them! And I've struggling with the word to use on how to describe it, but resonate is perfect for it! Thanks for helping me out with that lol 5y

This was actually a pretty interesting fantasy. Particularly with the pacing and writing. Really curious about the sequel now

Jennick2004 Interesting title...hmm 5y
GondorGirl I loved this one! I preordered the sequel from the author's preferred independent and it should arrive this week. I'm excited! 5y

Healer Zivah carries a plague she cannot heal, one that warrior Dineas survived. They are from vastly different tribes, but threats of war bring the two together on an impossible mission.

This is between a pick and so-so for me. I love that Zivah isn't your typical heroine, and uses her own special skills to survive. The plague is fascinating, the characters diverse... the world felt a little flat. I want to read the sequel, so it's a pick.

Zivah has just become a master healer when she is struck down by Rose plague. Although she survives the fever, she is left rosemarked, a sign that she‘s still contagious & that one day her body will succumb to the plague. It will mean a short life of isolation until she‘s given the chance to help her people fight the Amaparan rule.

I was bothered by one of the major plot devices, as it seemed fraught with problems but still an enjoyable read.

Cover reveal this week for Umbertouched by Livia Blackburne, sequel to Rosemarked! Set to release 11/6/18, I love how it coordinates w/Rosemarked. The watermark designs of the city/walls & mountains are significant to the story, as are the pink & brown colors.

She‘s also doing a giveaway of a signed collection of her books here: http://liviablackburne.com/giveaways/win-signed-copies-of-rosemarked-midnight-th...

Honestly this is such a gorgeous book and even if I hate it after I read it, I'll still keep it on my shelves. I guess I'm kind of shallow like that. #rosemarked

If you‘re inclined to review books on retail sites, add Powell‘s to your list! You can choose to make your “comment” eligible for their Daily Dose email, and if they feature yours, you get $20 credit! If the prize isn‘t claimed that day (by verifying your email), the credit rolls into the next day‘s prize, which is how I ended up with SIXTY DOLLARS THIS MORNING!!!

LibrarianRyan That is awesome. So adding it to my list. 6y
Ranchan Do you know if you need an American bank account for it to work? #internationalreaderproblems 6y
BookFreakOut @oOArankaOo I haven‘t tried using it yet, but I wouldn‘t think so. The credit is linked to an online profile (like using a gift card online) that you create with an email, not a bank account, so I imagine that as long as they ship to your country it would work. Their shipping FAQ page has international info. You enter your city/country (not full address) when submitting comments and there‘s a huge drop down of countries so you‘re probably covered! 6y

MartinaLove You mean, you literaly make make money that youmcan buy books with? Is it really legit or scam? Have you tried it? 6y
BookFreakOut @MartinaLove It‘s legit! There‘s just no guarantee that your comment will be picked as the Daily Dose winner, plus it‘s store credit rather than a cash payment so it ultimately benefits them. They‘re a huge indie bookstore so I imagine that‘s how they can afford to give away $20 each day. 6y
MartinaLove @BookFreakOut Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I will definetely leave some reviews there. ☺ 6y

Nice YA fantasy in the vein of Ember in the Ashes. Has a strong healer character who is caring w/a spine of steel (wears a deadly snake on her arm!) and a soldier struggling w/PTSD who provides a fascinating look at how memory informs identify.

TommieMarie74 I just bought this book. Can‘t wait to read it!! 6y

Even though I‘ve been taking my sweet time reading this month, I just love this book! I‘ve been saving it for my nightly 20-30 minutes reading before bed, and it‘s been turning into at least an hour 😅 I definitely just need to set aside more time to read❤️📚#AdultingSucks #procrastination #WhatReadingGoals

Once you suspend disbelief about a very important aspect of the book, which for me wasn‘t quite as well done as it could have been, there is a lot to like about this book & I recommended it. Zivah is healer who falls sick with an incurable disease. Dineas is a soldier, tortured & broken. Uneasy allies with nothing to lose, they set off on a perilous mission. Don‘t want to say more (no spoilers) but ending definitely leaves you wanting more.

A healer marked by a fatal disease & a warrior traumatized by torture join forces to infiltrate the despotic empire that oppresses both their people. Told in two alternating viewpoints—or would that be three?—this book takes what would ordinarily be a straightforward adventure story & turns it into a meditation on mortality & the role of memory in identity. It made me think, it made me feel—what more could I ask for?
