Equal parts amazing (the attack on New York) and silly (the lead character's absurd "mission" and how it ultimately plays out). I never would've given it a chance if I hadn't stumbled across the hardcover at the Dollar Tree(!), and while I'm not sorry I read it I certainly won't seek out Baxter's other Wells sequel (to The Time Machine). Worth a look for the curious, but I found it entirely too uneven. #sciencefiction

Starting a new book (Review of the last is on my blog!), and it‘s making me realize it‘s been like 15 years since I read War of the Worlds! So cool to have a “sequel” of sorts though. I might have to backtrack and reread the original...

Also pictured: my attempt at a summer drink (rose and strawberries 😂). There‘s a bar with amazing sangria that‘s walking distance but my neighbor and sangria partner is on vacation so it just doesn‘t feel right!

Sequel to HG Wells's "The War of the Worlds" is both admirable and slow going. It succeeds in terms of style and theme, and is very interesting in its speculations about how Wells's Martian invasion would have changed the early 20th century. But the characters aren't so much characters as observers, which for me was distancing, and at nearly 500 pages strained my interest.

One thing I can say is that it's slow getting into but it's picking up slowly the more you read.

I actually just got it to day and started it ,requested it from Blogging For Books, kind of slow right now,but it's interesting at the same time. Hopefully it'll pick up the more I read it , plus it's one of the books I plan to read for #thehubisgone

Does anyone else remember the TV show from the late 80's that was made in Canada? I watched that show faithfully before it switched stations and the station that picked it up aired it at 2 in the morning.

The book itself was very *very* well written. It did justice to H.G Wells and expanded the story in ways you never knew you wanted till you read it. With that said the story itself didn't quiet captivate me the way I wanted. This book, for me, is a true case of 'it's me not you'.

Side note: if you enjoy classic literature and are looking for something fresh, this book will be a wonderful fit for you :)
