Drawing comparisons with Shadow of the Wind, The Name of the Rose and The Reader, and an instant bestseller in more than 20 languages, Confessions is an astonishing story of one man's life, interwoven with a narrative that stretches across centuries to create an addictive and unforgettable literary symphony. I confess. At 60 and with a diagnosis of early Alzheimer's, Adri? Ardvol re-examines his life before his memory is systematically deleted. He recalls a loveless childhood where the family antique business and his father s study become the centre of his world; where a treasured Storioni violin retains the shadows of a crime committed many years earlier. His mother, a cold, distant and pragmatic woman leaves him to his solitary games, full of unwanted questions. An accident ends the life of his enigmatic father, filling Adri?'s world with guilt, secrets and deeply troubling mysteries that take him years to uncover and driving him deep into the past where atrocities are methodically exposed and examined. Gliding effortlessly between centuries, and at the same time providing a powerful narrative that is at once shocking, compelling, mysterious, tragic, humorous and gloriously readable, Confessions reaches a crescendo that is not only unexpected but provides one of the most startling denouements in contemporary literature. Confessions is a consummate masterpiece in any language, with an ending that will not just leave you thinking, but quite possibly change the way you think forever.

It took me some time to finish and I have barely scratched the first layer of this monumental and overwhelming "symphony of the evil". This must be a gem for lovers of philosophy and literature.
A genius losing his most precious gift, his mind, writes a final confession to the love of his life.
Such engaging prose, extremely vivid scenes and timelines stratching over 300 years alternate within the same piece of dialogue and interior monologue.

"Every day I read and every day I realise that I have everything left to read. And every once in a while I reread, even though I only reread that which deserves the privilege of rereading. A book that doesn‘t deserve to be reread doesn‘t deserve to be read either."

Theshadedbuffalo My kids do it, too! My oldest son literally threw his book (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and yelled out “what?! No!” When he got to a certain part. He was soooo mad at me for not warning him. 😆 6y
BookNerd9906 GoT. So much shouting. 6y
zzz This happened on a popular dystopian trilogy I was reading. Scarred me to the point I refuse to read anything else from this author 😣😤 6y

I just finished my #coffebeanbookclub read. I may have fallen into a cozy mystery black hole, the way I occasionally fall into a romance black hole....

Sometimes Sheriff Carson's advice is all we need😂

... keep it up, what the hell. If what you want is to spend your life reading, go ahead, you and your books. And tell the others where they can stuff it

My other half can‘t sleep with the light on, so last night I made him sleep in the spare room so I could keep the light on and read. I really wanted to finish my book! 🤭🤣

#booknerdconfessions #shelfie #FallIntoReading
I once tried to deny my book-nerdish tendencies...
At a party in my 20's I overheard my housemate telling a bunch of people how I loved to read & that I'd even started my own book club. She was mocking me, & everyone laughed. I pretended not to hear, and felt quite unsettled & diminished 😢.
Now I'm in my 40's & I am a loud and proud book nerd, as is my husband & at least one of our kids 😁👏📚❤️👊.

Centique What an awful housemate! ☹️ Yay for unreserved book nerdery now and mini readers too! 💕 Litsy has helped me embrace my book nerdery - mostly by encouraging me to buy more books! 7y

Lizpixie I got the same, I was called book nerd or four eyed reader with much derision and it hurt me deeply. Until I decided not to be ashamed anymore and own who I was. Who needs people like that in their life! 7y
GypsyKat Your ex-housemate sounds like a real jerk! Glad you're past all that anti-book negativity! 💪 7y

This book was #recommendedby @Moray_Reads and I just had to have it straight away!

As the protagonist is diagnosed with Alzheimer's, the motif of fading memories allows for the intermingling of stories, time periods and a mysterious violin.

Can't wait to crack this one wide open (but I'm making myself finish a couple books from last year before I start anything else). #readjanuary

LeahBergen Wow! I need to check this one out. 7y

Not #setinlibraries as such but books are an essential part of the story and there is a wonderful part where the protagonist builds his home library that left me envious. This was also my favourite book of 2015! #SeasonsReadings2016
