Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life | Hector Garcia, Fracesc Miralles
Bring meaning and joy to all your days with the internationally bestselling guide to ikigai. According to the Japanese, everyone has an ikigai - a reason for living. And according to the residents of the Japanese island of Okinawa - the world's longest-living people - finding it is the key to a happier and longer life. Inspiring and soothing, this book will bring you closer to these centenarians' secrets: how they leave urgency behind; keep doing what they love for as long as possible; nurture friendships; live in the moment; participate in their communities and throw themselves into their passions. And it provides practical tools to help you discover your own personal ikigai. Because who doesn't want to find the joy in every day?

Did you know...in Russian there are two completely different words for light blue and dark blue and experiments have shown, it takes Russian native speakers a fraction of a second longer to place blue objects into color categories than e.g. red ones, as they have to decide between light or dark blue🥴

I can confirm this, but this book is very easily sorted into the light blue category 💙🤓

I thought the book would focus more on explaining how to find one's Ikigai, the Japanese concept referring to finding the reason to live, for a life of purpose and joy.
But it's rather about people observing some healthy lifestyle principles and nothing new. A good summary for those who haven't yet watched the documentary on the Blue Zones - those places around the world where the average life expectancy of inhabitants exceeds 100 years old.

This book was easy to read and quite short in length, but honestly speaking, wasn't as beneficial as I thought it'd be. A lot of what was suggested I had already known. Due to that prior knowledge, it was dull and uninteresting.

Yet I think it may be helpful to some people out there. Not the best I've read, but I've read worst, so it's a So-So.

Great reading and in any life stage ❤️
My insights on the book:
- Life is too short to work on someone else dream. time to discover my own craft and passion
- There are no excuses to pay extreme affords and energy to something that has no value to me. Energy should be invested in meaningful things. And it doesn't matter where you've been born and what you are going to doing
- No one achieved greatness by playing safe
- Be here and now

The book touches the various aspects of life which can help us achieve a long happy life. It is based on ancient, well practised Japanese technique called — IKIGAI

Really liked this book. Learned a lot, and took me just about two hours to read. Good feeling and motivating book, about finding your passion, or your ikigai. Learned alot about japanese culture aswell. Informative and entertaining. Will definetly read this again!

An average book. Self help books are not the kind of genre I usually prefer to read but since the start, Ikigai had got it's own hype I thought of picking up this one for me.

I personally liked chapter 4 and chapter 9 of the book as this involved something practical enough philosophies.

This book is about Japanese people. How the people in that country live so long, about their diet, exercise and some of japenese concepts.

Good read. Some great info & concepts shared in this book. The best part, it's not at all targeted in making you Rich like others instead to find the real meaning of your existence on this planet. Which can be as simple as being a good parent or a takumi (enginner) making a simple car part. You need to read this book multiple times to get the best out of it. Audiobook is my preference for this one. Keep a notebook handy for this one.

When the concept interests you so much, you just need to dig deep. So here I go understanding the concept of ikigai and right on time as I need it badly to incorporate in my day to day life.

This gave some advice I already knew and follow but also a lot that isn't feasible. Everyone can't be like retired people on Okinawa. I appreciate the overall message but I think it could have been done better.

Much like with Lagom I felt this book was written in a way to drastically simplify a culture such that it lost its context and meaning. There's a small list at the front that contains the aspects of Ikigai. After that I felt like it was stretching to make a book out of the list.
