This is John Marrs‘s debut and instead of the speculative fiction I read (and loved!) by him, this is a thriller. It‘s decent one about a man who walks out om his marriage and three kids and return 25 years later to apologize.
The book is about what happened to both of them in all those years and why he left in the first place. I kept on reading. Satisfying.

The story jumps from the perspectives of both Simon & Catherine, from the day he left, & years to follow, to the present date. At times this made the book feel slow as the story‘s big reveals were spaced out so far apart.
Simon is such a sociopath! His behavior & actions were deplorable. All the while blaming Catherine was frustrating, but really well written to cause such an emotion from the reader!

I was completely captivated from start to finish! I highly recommend this one.

A husband runs away from his unhappy marriage and disappears while his wife is worried and thinks he may have died. The author goes back and forth in time so we learn what happens in his new life, why he left his marriage in the first place, and the secrets he and his wife were both hiding.

The format is similar to 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo but is mostly intolerable. The back & forth b/t present day & 25 years earlier when husband, Simon, left the life with his wife, Catherine. The POV ALSO flips b/t either spouse, full of needless cliffhanger statements alluding to numerous secrets from the past of each. The present is just the 2 meeting again years later and Simon is a wholly irredeemable character whose motivation is so muddled.

It‘s gotten a bit slow but still interested in the plot. Maybe it‘s a slow burn thriller.
