The Pursuit of Mary Bennet
The Pursuit of Mary Bennet: A Pride and Prejudice Novel | Pamela Mingle
A tale of love and marriage, society balls and courtship, class and a touch of scandal, Pamela Mingle's The Pursuit of Mary Bennet is a fresh take on one of the most beloved novels of all time, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Growing up with four extraordinary sistersbeautiful and confident Jane and Elizabeth, and flirtatious and lighthearted Lydia and Kittywasn't easy for an awkward bookworm like Mary Bennet. But with nearly all of her sisters married and gone from the household, the unrefined Mary has transformed into an attractive and eligible young woman in her own right. When another scandal involving Lydia and Wickham threatens the Bennet house, Mary and Kitty are packed off to visit Jane and her husband, Charles Bingley, where they meet the dashing Henry Walsh. Eager and nave, Mary is confused by Henry's attentions, even as she finds herself drawing closer to him. Could this really be loveor the notions of a foolish girl unschooled in the art of romance and flirtation?

I very recently finished and reviewed this P&P adaptation/continuation of the story. Mary‘s #music aptitude greatly improves in this sequel. While her singing voice is not good, thanks to pianoforte lessons, her playing becomes enchanting, or at least in the eyes of a certain gentleman who finds favor with her… #200PnPCovers

mabell Interesting premise! 3y
CrowCAH Oh this sounds like it could be an enchanting story! 3y

Mary Bennet gets her own story in this post Pride and Prejudice adaptation. It‘s a sweet story and one that makes you hopeful that the Mary in Austen‘s world did not forever remain the wallflower. Mingle writes the male “love interest” of Mr Walsh with baggage from his youth, so not a perfect character, by Regency standards, and that works well. #2013 #19822022

Can't even begin to tell you how much I LOVED this book. I'll be honest in saying I've never read Pride and Prejudice so I'll be grabbing that tomorrow! (Don't mind my dark picture, I read at night with a salt lamp 😉)

Day 8 #FallIntoBooks #Awkward If I can't think of a book for a prompt I go to my Goodreads shelves or type the key word(s) into my blog's search feature-assuming I probably noted if a character was 'awkward' for example. This is the first book that came up. Mary Bennet, awkward as all get out, gets her own love story. It's been a few years since I reviewed it but I called it sweet & enjoyable. BTW: 2005 movie Mary fared better than 1995 Mary.😆

mommyincolortv Didn't even know this books existed! Added to my TBR list 7y
Liatrek Wow I really thought poor Mary was so over shadowed. I will definitely be looking for this book. Also, I do the same type of search for some of these book challenges 😊 7y
DebinHawaii @concreterosereads5889 @Liatrek It's nice to read her point of view & hear the reasons behind the awkwardness. 👍📚 7y
