The Walk
The Walk | Robert Walser
2 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
Ranging from one-page fantasies to novella-length studies of everyday existence, The Walk reveals the irresistible genius of one of the twentieth century's greatest writers. Under-appreciated even in his own lifetime, Robert Walser has nonetheless been recognised by such writers as W.G. Sebald, Susan Sontag, Franz Kafka, Herman Hesse and J.M. Coetzee. Like Kafka and Sebald, Walser wrote about the solitude and unease of human existence. Honest, wry and idiosyncratic, his stories are snapshots of the lives great artists, poor young men, beautiful women and talking animals alike. Ranging from the realist to the allegorical, the short fiction collected in this volume demonstrates Walser's uncanny ability to capture both life's strangeness and its small joys.

Sometimes you have to challenge yourself to see what you‘re truly capable of! 🖤♥️

Today, my friend Rachel and I will be challenging ourselves to walk 100,000 steps in one day. 😱💪🏻🥳

It all started when I seen there was an #OlympianSandal badge on Fitbit, and I thought to myself... it‘s probably not possible for someone who doesn‘t run or jog, but I want that badge! I want to walk 100,000 steps in one day!

⬇️⬇️

Clwojick I‘ve done some research in the weeks since hearing about this badge, and we‘ve planned a smart route with lots of stop for rest, food, and water. I apologize in advance if I flood your feed with “nonbookish” photos, but I‘ll use the #OlympianSandalChallenge hashtag so y‘all can follow along, or hide my posts, whichever you prefer! 😂💖 ⬇️⬇️ (edited) 5y
Clwojick And lastly, I want to give a MASSIVE shoutout to @wanderinglynn ! Before the #BookFitnessChallenge my Fitbit had been jammed in my dresser drawer for 2 years. After working a desk job that piled on massive anxiety and stress I felt I had lost my motivation to be healthy, and active. I left that job, and shortly after hopping back on Litsy I joined #bfc They have truly motivated me to start pushing myself. Thanks to the whole crew for all your 💖💙 5y

Clwojick Thanks @julesG !!!! ♥️🧡💛 5y
PSreads73 According to a google search 100,000 steps is approximately 10 miles. I work retail and commonly get around 4 miles during a shift. 10 miles is definitely doable but my feet and legs would yell at me the next day. Good luck. 5y
Clwojick @PSreads73 I‘m pretty sure it‘s closer to 50 miles. All I know is that for my height it‘s about 73 Kms. It‘ll definitely be a challenge. 😂🙌🏻 (edited) 5y
Hoopiefoot Good luck! Take care of yourselves—lots of water, stretching, snacks, and laughs. You can do it! 5y
Kaye Good luck with your goal 🚶‍♀️ 👟 5y
Cailey_Mac Ooooo sounds fun! Definitely soak those feet/legs after and in the am! 5y
stacybmartin Good luck with your trek! 💙 5y
Trashcanman If anyone can do this it's you! 5y
wanderinglynn You got this! 🙌🏻 5y
wanderinglynn @PSreads73 I think that‘s a low estimate. Generally, it‘s 2,000 steps per mile. But it depends on your height & stride length. I walk a bit less than 12,000 steps to get to 5 miles. So 100,000 for me would be somewhere between 40-50 miles. 5y
wanderinglynn You got this! 🙌🏻 Team #BFC is rooting for you! 5y
PSreads73 @Clwojick Yea that sounds more accurate. My google search brought up someone‘s post on Quora. Clearly they were wrong. 5y
PSreads73 @wanderinglynn Yep you‘re right. I should‘ve put some thought into it instead of googling. That post on Quora was way off. 5y
bewareofwords That‘s amazing!! Good luck! 🍀 5y
