I imagine it was perfect in the ‘80‘s and it might have had an impact on me then. Now, though, I felt it offered very few specifics on achieving the transformation he writes about. Wanted to bail, but I rarely do that, and in customary fashion, (the reason I don‘t bail) is that the last few chapters finally gives you what you‘ve been waiting for: his grand pronouncements on what matters. I‘ve done inner work for years and this is merely a primer.

Suet624 On the plus side, this has been on my shelf and my #bookspin list for ages. May‘s bookspin accomplished. @TheAromaofBooks 3y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! It's funny how sometimes a book hits at the exact right moment in life - and other times it misses. 3y

“There are no ordinary moments.“

I‘m really trying to take that statement to heart. It feels like a different way of saying ‘live in the present moment.‘

RaeLovesToRead Nice clouds! 😊😊💕 3y
Suet624 @RaeLovesToRead Sometimes I need the reminder to look up. 3y
Nute Aren‘t clouds an extraordinary thing? 3y
Suet624 @Nute I spend a lot of time reminding myself to look at the clouds. They are such beautiful pieces of art. 3y

This was my front yard for over 20 years until my divorce. My ex-hubby still lives there. I‘m housesitting in the neighborhood right now so this was my reading spot last night. Pretty sweet.

LeahBergen How beautiful! 3y

Cinfhen So stunning!! I can understand why you must miss that view 😍 3y
Amiable Is that Lake Memphremagog? 3y
fredthemoose Oooh… I left a lake house after ending a long relationship… it was for the best, but man did that sting! Hope you have a fabulous stay back in the neighborhood! 3y
Suet624 @Amiable Nice guess, but no. Lake Champlain is the furthest body of water. That's the Adirondacks of New York far away. The closer body of water is Shelburne Bay. The land on the right is part of Red Rocks Park in South Burlington and the neighborhood is Queen City Park. (Maybe more than you needed, but just in case you knew of the area...) 3y
Suet624 @fredthemoose @cinfhen Honestly, by the time I left I was so miserable I couldn't see the beauty of the place anymore. Now my ex and I are friends, we go on family vacations together with the kids, and I visit the front yard quite often. :) Now my view is of mountains and valleys in ski country. Not a bad swap. 3y

Amiable @Suet624 My mother-in-law lived near Jay Peak for 30 years —we‘ve spent a lot of time in those parts! That view looks a bit like the one from my husband‘s stepdad‘s family‘s place in Newport. 3y

Amazing, humbling, possibly need to read this book yearly for that constant reminder.

Bewildered, stil pondering.

"When a man no longer confuses himself with the definition of himself that others have given him, he is at once universal and unique."

"The journey is what brings us happiness not the destination."

"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on breaking the old, but building the new."

JazzFeathers Great quotes. 4y
Philonist @JazzFeathers 😃 I agree with you. The book is stimulating too! 4y

Not really much in the way of meditatitive, self-help, spiritual books. I looked at this as a memoir concerning a gymnast who meets an old man who refers himself to be the historical Socrates and inspires and challenges him in life. Didn't find it inspirational but I can find why readers gravitated toward its popularity.

I was looking forward to reading this - "The book that changes lives", but I found myself disappointed. The writing is mediocre and there are a lot of gaps in the story, which really bothered me.
