Four girls band together to survive the dreaded morning after Halloween on their paper route. And then - Things Happen. The story took me a minute to get into, but once it had me, it had me hooked. Beautiful characters, beautiful art!

BarbaraJean Ahhhh, your first post!! 😁 I need to read these. 1y
Tea_and_Starstuff @BarbaraJean Yes, I have dipped my toes in! And you're welcome to borrow them :D 1y

Because I have a lot going on now & find it hard to find to time to read , graphic novel it is! Maybe it‘s a so-so because I‘m comparing it to Saga, maybe there is too much going on .Not sure I will continue. I heard there is a TV adaptation.

psalva I felt the same way about this. I like Vaughan‘s other comics, so I was surprised this didn‘t work as well. I‘m curious to see how they adapted it to tv, however. I believe it‘s on Amazon Prime. 2y

I wanted to check these out before I watched the show on Amazon. So I'm just reviewing them together as the full series. It was just so so for me overall. Mostly it just felt like the story would have been better a bit condensed and not drawn out through so many issues. I love the girl power though and that it shows how important a good group of friends can be.

I keep trying graphic novels that are highly rated and they just don't seem to click with me. I guess this is just not my type of format.

Not sure why it took me so long to get around to these, because I love Brian's mind. The things and places he dreams up is out of this world. (pun intended 😉)

Can't wait for the next issue; with that ominous ending who can?

I zipped through Paper Girls last night while watching a 90s movie about comic book people (can you guess which one?) - total coincidence because this is most often compared to Stranger Things. There is a girl gang, strange creatures, time travel, and danger! A lot of it is in #hoopla if you have it - this is Book One which is a compilation of Volumes 1&2, which already compile single issues. ⤵️

ReadingEnvy For me this is between a so-so and a pick, but more because it‘s not really my thing, so I went with pick. 4y

Te Araroa kilometers tramped: 870.6 of 3005.3

Books completed on trail: 16

I used to be subscribed to the physical version of this comic and read up to maybe issue 18. Now that the series is complete, I‘m starting over. Love the story and the art! I can‘t help but compare it to #StrangerThings. It‘s set in the 80s (well, partially) and it‘s about a group of friends who deal with supernatural things. #hoopla

I love this series!

It kind of reminds me of Stranger Things but with an all girl cast.

Starting Book 2 now.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

ehewett88 I keep hearing about this and really interested but my library doesn't stock it is it worth buying? do you think you would read it again after the first time? 5y
That-Bookish-Hiker @ehewett88 I will def be buying these for my own personal library. Plus my library only had vol 1 and 2 which makes me sad so I‘m planning buying all volumes available. They are really great and have some funny moments. It reminds me a lot of Stranger Things so if you like that show you‘ll enjoy this. This will be something I reread over and over. 5y

Hello ladies. Thanks for joining me. I would like to start with saying I think we should agree not to write in the books. Use tabs and notes at the end maybe. I normally don‘t mind writing in books, but GN are so much about the artwork. However if you all feel differently, I will move as you want.

Here are some I currently have down stairs. I also have Snot Girl and a few others upstairs.

#LMPBC #GroupU

Paper Girls has 3GN in one Book.

DGRachel I agree with not writing in the books. I haven‘t read any of your selections, but I‘d have to vote for either Dark Crystal or Labyrinth. 😍 5y
TheBookHippie I agree with not writing and I‘ve not read any, so I‘m open ! 5y
BethM Is this something I can join? 5y
LibrarianRyan @BethM our official #groupU is full but I would be happy to share my title for an additional read when it comes back. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080444aead2ca0ff2-litsy6 has all the the other groups, there are still a few openings in other categories. A few minutes ago there were spots still light nF and creature feature. Maybe a few others. It‘s run by @suvata 5y
BethM Thanks! 5y
bibliobard I was planning on tabs/sticky notes anyway. I read more manga than graphic novels, so all of these are unknown to me :) 5y
LibrarianRyan @shakespearience @TheBookHippie @DGRachel why don't I pick the Dark Crystal. It's one of my fav moives, and NetFlix has a new series coming out August 30. That's not based on this book, it based on the YA series Shadow of the Dark Crystal. I think this is based on the original sequel Brian Frond was working on ages ago. https://youtu.be/zSV42j8lccg (new trailer) Here is a bad trailer to the original Jim Henson Movie. https://youtu.be/wW23YcaB 5y
TheBookHippie @LibrarianRyan sounds good!!! 5y
DGRachel Perfect!! 5y
RaimeyGallant How about a book mark you can write on instead? 5y
LibrarianRyan @RaimeyGallant that is a cool idea. 5y

I picked this up because I needed to fill my Saga void, and I‘m so glad I did! I love that it‘s set in the 80s and all the girl power in here. Can‘t wait to read book 2!

It‘s pretty much not the weekend if Josh and I do t end up at the book store. I have lots of coupons so today‘s #bookhaul included Paper Girls book 1 (I think it has the first 3 books and Decender Vil 1. Plus I couldn‘t pass up Freddie Mercury. Now if only I could find Live Aid Freddie.

mcipher Paper Girls is AMAZING! And totally counts for SFFTBR. I owe you a letter and an update on that. And we should try our buddy read again - maybe use the weekly schedule you set up? We can invite everyone to join to keep us accountable... 😆 How does March sound?! 5y
LibrarianRyan @mcipher I‘ve read the first paper girls but was having a hard time getting the rest of the books. I think I can do March. My two postal book club books shouldn‘t take too long. 5y
mcipher Okay cool! I just signed up to do Lincoln In The Bardo in March too so that will be a good (weird) mix. Hopefully we can get some people to join us! 5y

Any thoughts on Paper Girls?? I love Saga. And I was wanting to get more into graphic novels I almost book it today but the price and the fact I'm not 💯 I'll like it made me put it back down. Give me reasons to buy?!

quirkthenerd I have thought the same questions. Absolutely love Saga! 6y

This was pretty great. There are definitely some similarities to Stranger Things, but I believe this came first? Girl power and badass characters. Can‘t wait to read more! #24in48 first book done! #graphicnovel
