Brimstone
Brimstone | Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
A body is found in the attic of a fabulous Long Island estate. There is a claw print scorched into the wall, and the stench of sulfur chokes the air. When FBI Special Agent Pendergast investigates the gruesome crime, he discovers that thirty years ago four men conjured something unspeakable. Has the devil come to claim his due? Some things can't be undone.

This is the 5th book in the Pendergast series and the beginning of the Diogenes trilogy. This one starts out with the death of an art critic. The scene of the crime, though, seems to suggest he was killed by the devil. Fortunately, Pendergast is on the case, and D'Agosta is back to help.

96 of 2020. Per usual, this was another great story in the series. Aloysius Pendergast is one of my favorite characters. He is extremely intellectual and quirky. I find him hilarious. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book #5 in the Agent Pendergast series. This was an enjoyable and interesting read. I did guess who did it fairly early on, but the ‘how‘ eluded menu til the end. And the@cliff-hanger at the end....thus book has, by far, seen Pendergast unsettled more than any other. Can‘t wait to see where the next one picks up the pieces of this one. Also good to see things go the right way for D‘Agosta in this noon too.

Wishing the rain would stop for good! The south is drowning! Lots of reading being done, though!

wildwoodreads Right! I live in northeast Alabama, near a lake, and school has been out almost a week because a majority of the bus routes are flooded. 5y
BarkingMadRead Ugh @megzlynn that sucks!! 5y
Mindyrecycles My Georgia sister has also had it with the rain. Tucson will take some of it. 🙂 5y

Mehso-so

I liked the beginning and end of the book, but much of the middle lost my interest. I‘ve listened to many of the Pendergast novels, but have not been happy with them, so I finally tried an ebook, but I‘m not sure it‘s worth another chance. This one was way too long, and I don‘t think I‘m enjoying them enough to continue on. The ending has me a bit intrigued, but I‘m not sure it‘s enough. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin Hmmm, I‘ve looked back and I liked more than I thought of the previous books. I guess it‘s just the couple I didn‘t like as much that stuck in my head. Maybe I should keep going, after all. 6y
Andrew65 I‘ve only read the first one and whilst a good book, not being motivated to pick the others up in the series, and read this in 2012! 6y

#monstermadness2017 Diogenes Pendergast could be an #invisibleman . He is selfish, lacks empathy, and exaggerates his emotions (is actually sort of a super villain).

FYI: These three books, The Diogenes Trilogy, are actually book 5, 6, and 7 in the Pendergast series. 🙂

Diogenes Pendergast always comes to mind first in discussions of naughty characters. This title is the first in his trilogy within the Pendergast (Aloysius) series. All great fun!#seasonsreadings2016

One brother is an FBI agent and the other is a genius psychopath, and they're committed to destroying one another. The Diogenes (psycho) trilogy within the Aloysius Pendergast (FBI agent) series by Preston & Child is such fun! You don't have to read the earlier books to enjoy these, but they are entertaining reads, too. #augustphotochallenge

Bookzombie I love this series! I actually read Brimstone first because it was given to me as a gift and I didn't realize it was a series. Then I went back to the beginning. 🤓 8y
