A stylish, dystopic sci fi detective noir about privacy, freedom, isolation and connection, looking back at our current technological age and forward to possible dramatic difference with an equally jaundiced eye. More questions raised than points made. As much sex/nudity/violence as I've come to expect from Vaughan after Saga.

This was cool! A near future America where the fourth estate takes control after the digital Cloud bursts and the Internet is dismantled. A P.I. gets pulled into a conspiracy when his client is killed. A classic trope, but expertly translated into a unique setting. Maybe my last completed read of 2024?

vivastory One of the local major hospitals was a victim of a ransomware attack right before the holidays. It was so severe that they were redirecting ER patients to other hospitals & they still don't even have full access to their medical records. I think about this Vaughan story a lot.

ShyBookOwl Vaughan is my absolute favourite graphic novelist! I need to check this one out! 10mo
TieDyeDude @vivastory I mean, there's evil, then there's holding a hospital hostage. This comic actually had me thinking a bit about growing up without the Internet, then growing up later with it, and the pros and cons. 10mo
TieDyeDude @ShyBookOwl @RaeLovesToRead Vaughn is great. I actually picked this because I loved the artist work on another thing I recently read. Interestingly, I didn't notice the art as much in this as I was sucked in my the story 10mo

Futuristic America, living in a post internet world with millennial grandparents… I really enjoyed this one!

As a fan of Saga, I was curious about this graphic novel. First off the illustrations as usual are great! The story wasn't bad either. A P.I. gets mixed up trying to do a background check on a woman when she winds up dead and her sister wants him to figure out who murdered her. I love his assistant throughout the book... without her, this would be a one star book. The ending was confusing therefore it gets 2 1/2 stars from me.

I absolutely loved this story about the near future where society is dealing with the fallout of all of humanity‘s secrets in “the cloud” have been leaked. The internet doesn‘t exist anymore, the press are like the police, and everyone takes on nyms so no one knows personal information about anyone. My favorite character was Gramps.

Taking a break from schoolwork and laundry to sneak in a graphic novel. I love Brian K. Vaughan‘s writing so I‘m excited to read this.

Well...that was eerily relevant. My friend bought me this book a few years back so, of course, I haven't read it (#librarianproblem #noduedate) but I was home sick and needed something to read and finally picked this up and DEVOURED IT!!! BKV is one of my favorite authors and this did not disappoint.

Gorgeous edition of former web comic that is going to be murder to shelve because of its odd shape.

The story is a satisfying blend of speculative noir that quickly establishes the rules and then allows them to play out. In plot terms this is as sophisticated and as cinematic as anything I've seen recently.

Meaty and fun, this was a great find.

Future noir. The 'cloud' bursts and privacy is at a premium, so much so that people literally wear masks/costumes and have multiple aliases. Libraries are sacred and the press are the police. P.I., a paparazzi, is thrust into a case that will have serious consequences for the society he lives in. I had no idea what I was getting into when I picked this up. I really enjoyed this. Such a good comic!

Heh. Also appropriate for Summer Reading Program.

Brian K Vaughan is magical. I think he's incapable of writing a boring story.

I love all of Brian K. Vaughan's work and this is no exception. A P.I.'s work is never easy, add in the obstacle of no internet and everyone hides their faces behind masks in this interesting spin on what the future may look like. Possibly sooner than we may think...
