4⭐The murders in this book are not for the faint of heart. They are graphic, to a sickening extent. I believe this is done to make a significant impact, and it does...but it might be too much for some. We also see a continuation of the budding romance between Kate&John. I'm uncertain about the vibes John was giving off. However, I‘m sure this is a way to extend their love story over several books. The narration by Kathleen McInerney was fantastic.
This 2nd book in the Kate Burkholder series is pretty good. I'd rate it higher if it were a standalone but there's a fair amount of repetition from the first book of both Kate's and John's pasts/the effects on them as they investigate current horrific crimes. And the crimes in this book are truly horrific. It was at times difficult reading. I think I will read the 3rd book at some point in hopes that they won't relate as much to the next crimes.

Another excellent thriller from Castillo. An entire Amish family is brutally murdered, and it‘s a race to put all the evidence together and track down themurderer(s) before certain witnesses will be in danger as well..

This was good, though be warned it‘s also quite graphic. It‘s a bit jarring, to be honest, reading about an Amish community and being faced with the violence. But it‘s a good story. I‘m not a big fan of the personal side of Kate‘s life, though, at least not her relationship with Tomasetti. I just don‘t “get” the connection there. So, the mystery/detective work is definitely the draw for me in this book.
It‘s been a while since I read the first in this series so I figured I would try to get caught up. I read this one in a day and a half! I couldn‘t put it down once I got started. I was sucked into the story and I love the character of Kate Burkholder. I‘m ready for the next one! 🌟🌟🌟🌟!
This one felt a little disorganized for her normal style. There were a lot of events and few lulls, which I love; however, the ending didn‘t really tie up the loose ends. 7/10

Ok wow, this is the second in this series and I‘m SUPER into it. I couldn‘t help but get sucked into this one from the beginning. The murder and evidence were super grisly, and I loved Chief Kate Burkholder‘s commitment to solving this case. I‘m also a big fan of the awkward and complicated relationship Kate has with John Tomasetti. Definitely continuing to move forward with this series-I‘m waitlisted for #3 at the library!!
Loving this morning's natural light
I did enjoy this book but not as much as the first one. Some things seemed to be forced into happening, like relationships, and other scenes were too obvious and you knew exactly what was going to happen. But overall it was a good book and I will continue the series.
Book 2 didn't disappoint either. As a matter of fact, though I am posting the review late, with down time at work I managed in a few days. The setting is mysterious, dark, and bleak. The violence of the crime is almost shocking, and the fast-paced narrative in the book is appropriate. Trigger warning: difficult subject matter. #recentlyread #nospoilers #Amishfiction #femalepolicechief #thrillerseries

Here we go again. I suspect that I am going to get pulled in, but that is not a bad thing. I am glad I have a strong stomach. #booksandlunch #currentlyreading #thrillerseries #Amishfiction ⚠️😳
Second book in this series. If I lived in Painters Mill, I‘d be moving to another town. Good book. Have to say...author overuses the descriptor “sage look”. Looking forward to the next installment!
Only #2 in this delicious series, and it keeps you wanting to get to know the characters. I had to buy the rest of the series because I just love it so much
This is only the second one in the series, but I must say that they drag you in and keep you there
Oh my... this series is quickly becoming one that I can‘t get enough of! So good! 😱👍
Changing my view today... 😜 Ready for some yoga after doing something to my hip flexor yesterday. Happy Wednesday, Littens! 💕🤗
4 mile run in this morning. So now it‘s time to read a little and cuddle with this puggy. #pugsoflitsy
A new book and a pug tail for a beautiful Sunday afternoon! 💕🤗 #pugsoflitsy
This was my first book of Linda Castillo and I read it maybe 7 years ago. So, I had to try the audio version! Did not disappoint.
With the great discussion a bunch of us had over my post about Sworn to Silence, I found a copy of the next in the series on the library‘s shelves. Off to home it goes with me today!
I enjoyed the first mystery in this series last year and I‘m hoping to read this second installment this year. Police chief Kate Burkholder works in Painters Mill, Ohio, where she was raised as part of the Amish community. The titles of the first 3 in the series play with “silence” in the title. #silent

I liked the mystery in this book (but be aware of graphic descriptions) but I am a little annoyed that *of course* the female detective has to be saved by the romantic interest. And of course they have a complicated and messy on-and-off relationship. Hoping that Kate (the main character) grows a bit more independent in the next book.
