Those Other Women | Nicola Moriarty

From the author of The Fifth Letter comes a controversial and darkly comic story about the frustrations of being a childless woman in the modern baby-obsessed world . . . Poppy's world has been tipped sideways: the husband who never wanted children has betrayed her with her broody best friend. At least Annalise is on her side. Her new friend is determined to celebrate their freedom from kids, so together they create a Facebook group to meet up with like-minded women, and perhaps vent just a little about smug mummies' privileges at work. Meanwhile their colleague Frankie would love a night out, away from her darlings - she's not had one this decade and she's heartily sick of being judged by women at the office as well as stay-at-home mums. Then Poppy and Annalise's group takes on a life of its own and frustrated members start confronting mums like Frankie in the real world. Cafs become battlegrounds, playgrounds become warzones and offices have never been so divided. A rivalry that was once harmless fun is spiralling out of control. Because one of their members is a wolf in sheep's clothing. And she has an agenda of her own . . . Praise for The Fifth Letter: 'Will grab readers and refuse to let go. An author to watch' Booklist 'With secrets and intrigue, this is a compulsive read' Sun on Sunday 'Intrigue, hatred and accusations - phew, it kept me guessing to the end' Sun

I went to a chat on the 31st July at my local library about writing crime. It was held in the art gallery upstairs. At the moment they have an exhibition on female convicts. Many bonnets, that are beautifully decorated and feature the names of the women, line the walls. It reminded me of The Handmaid‘s Tale. I met Liane Moriarty‘s sister. She signed all 3 of my books by her. The interviewer promised not to mention her sister but then Nicola did.

Gillyreads Jaclyn Moriarty is one of my favourite authors. I‘ve heard all three talk about each other‘s work and it‘s great. They‘re so supportive but joke about stealing each other‘s ideas and such. 5y

Looking back through my library checkout history, I‘ve given this book more #SecondChances than any other. I think it‘s time to call it a bail!

I enjoyed this a lot more than Nicola‘s previous book. I really liked how this book managed to cover aspects from ALL women- those with kids, those without, etc. I enjoyed the dynamic between the characters and liked the ending. But wow Garrett and Carlene what fuckers. I highly recommend this one!!

A little long and a little too “catty” at times, but ends up being a fun read with a great message that woman need to support each other, not tear each other down. 🤟🏻🥂

(This morning.. it‘s been a long day 🙌🏻) when your outfit matches the book you‘re reading (completely unintentionally!) but no one at work will be the least bit surprised.

THOSE OTHER WOMEN is out in hardcover!! Nicola Moriarty writes a complex and interesting story about women in the workplace, in the home, and in each other‘s lives. We love a strong female lead and this book is full of them. Check it out in stores now!

Mehso-so

Comparable to The Wife Between Us & The Last Mrs. Parrish (both of which I detested), & less so to Girl on the Train. The superficiality & the constant inner dialogue of women questioning themselves is the disappointing focus despite a thriller label. The same timeline repeats thrice to follow 3 women, extra drama thrown in like dollops of sour cream on a baked potato— doesn‘t actually make the meal more substantial, it‘s just a dressing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

LeeRHarry Great review 😊 6y
JHSiess I consider myself warned & will pass. 👍 6y

Books ARE the best @JoScho 😄 #ManicMonday

1) Those Other Women is holding my focus, & I‘m also loving the audiobook of Just Kids.

2) As a kid my parents and I would all read together on Saturday nights. And my mom supported my book hoarding habits early on.

3) The best feeling is curling up first thing while languidly drinking a giant coffee.

4) Hmm. Conversations with Friends. Americanah.
If memoirs count: The Wrong Way to Save Your Life.

This week‘s #BookMail included both my Read More Women tote from Electric Literature for being a supporter, as well as these giveaway wins, each written by women, how serendipitous.

Quite excited to have such a good haul of #ARCs 😄🤘🏻

I wish they sold Starburst 5 to a pack because there is no way I can ration them out. Anyone else have this issue with a candy or junk food (I have the same challenge with potato chips)?

While we‘re on the topic of gluttony - I will say that the further I get into this book, the more I want to gobble it whole. It gets better with each page.

twohectobooks Definitely have this problem so nowadays I only bring candy into the house on special occasions. 6y

Written by Liane Moriarty‘s little sister, so I‘m intrigued. But world‘s TINIEST font in an unbound manuscript. 😩
Have emailed publicist to ask for bound galley or e-galley instead. If she says no, I‘ll have to pass on this one, because the font is so small I‘ll hurt my eyes!

Reading while dining alone is one of the finest pleasures!

So I figured out what the title means — there‘s drama between moms and child-free women in the book. At first I didn‘t know where the story was going with all the lack of empathy and defensive posturing but now I think it might end up as a story of female solidarity. I hope so!

The book is told from the point of view of three women, which I really like.

hoggman Ooh just from the title I was real worried it was gonna be more "not like other girls," but its good to hear that it's not! 6y
Tav @hoggman I am hoping for a great ending! 6y

This novel is set in warm and sunny Australia. I am reading it in chill and dreary New York.

So far, this is better than The Fifth Letter, the author‘s earlier novel.

Cinfhen This actually sounds like a fun read....perfect for a #beachread 🏖gotta love those Moriarty sisters 6y
Tav @Cinfhen yes - it‘s exactly that! 6y
CoffeeAndABook Chill & dreary - perfect reading conditions 😉💎☕️🔥 6y
Tav @CoffeeAndABook excellent point - except I was commuting to work not bundled in bed! 6y
CoffeeAndABook @Tav Yep, I can see where you‘re coming from, that sure makes a difference 😉 Hope the weather‘s looking up today ☀️ 6y
