#OnThisDay in 1973 Virago Press held its first board meeting as a fledgling publishing company. Virago (originally called Spare Rib Press) was founded by Carmen Callil to "celebrate women and women's stories". Through the years, Virago has been home to such celebrated authors as Maya Angelou, Margaret Atwood, Angela Carter, Daphne duMaurier, and Zora Neale Hurston. #HistoryGetsLIT
A new addition to my Virago collection. I have read the first few entries and am loving it. A wonderful way to learn about some new female authors. 🍏
I have only two remaining tasks for the @bookriot #readharder2018 challenge- one of which will be fulfilled by reading this book I bought in Paris this summer. For the “read an anthology”, I think this will be a great option as it is a collection of essays from famous writers talking about/recommending other authors. Sounds right up my alley!
I just started reading this beautiful new hardback from @viragopress. It‘s an anthology, that celebrates the women and men, who have written the introductions to forty Virago Modern Classics over the last four decades. I‘ve always loved reading about the books that have shaped authors and why they love them, so this is definitely a treat to read!

There are a lot of pretty books out there, but I think this is one of the prettiest I have recently seen. I spotted it on Virago‘s website and couldn‘t resist adding it to my collection!
