The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: Book II
The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: Book II: The Hidden Gallery | Maryrose Wood
14 posts | 18 read | 1 to read
Of especially naughty children it is sometimes said, "They must have been raised by wolves." The Incorrigible children actually were. Thanks to the efforts of Miss Penelope Lumley, their plucky governess, Alexander, Beowulf, and Cassiopeia are much more like children than wolf pups now. They are accustomed to wearing clothes. They hardly ever howl at the moon. And for the most part, they resist the urge to chase squirrels up trees. Despite Penelope's civilizing influence, the Incorrigibles still managed to ruin Lady Constance's Christmas ball, nearly destroying the grand house. So while Ashton Place is being restored, Penelope, the Ashtons, and the children take up residence in London. Penelope is thrilled, as London offers so many opportunities to further the education of her unique students. But the city presents challenges, too, in the form of the palace guards' bearskin hats, which drive the children wildnot to mention the abundance of pigeons the Incorrigibles love to hunt. As they explore London, however, they discover more about themselves as clues about the children'sand Penelope'smysterious past crop up in the most unexpected ways. . . .

Book 2 and the Incorrigibles have an adventure in London. We see Miss Lumley act a little more her age as she is experiencing more of the wider world away from her boarding school and Ashton Place. More clues are dropped in but no real answers found yet.

I enjoyed this one much more than the first! The Incorrigibles head to London, where mystery upon mystery is announced. I felt the narration flowed much better, and I liked seeing the growth in the characters...Lady Ashton is horrid! Book Two for #CoverChangeMidSeries #BBRC #MiddleGrade .

This was just as much over-the-top fun as the first book. The Incorrigibles and their beloved Lumawoo (aka Miss Lumley) do London—from Buckingham Palace to a Drury Lane theatre premiere—and hijinks ensue. A few more clues to the lingering mystery emerge—and I need to keep reading to find out the answers! Who are the Incorrigibles, really? What is Judge Quinzy up to? And what does Miss Mortimer know?! Looking forward to the next installment...

monalyisha I love, love, loved these on audio! 5y

Last at-work #audiowalk for #bookfitnesschallenge round 1! And I‘m SO CLOSE to the end of this audiobook. I‘m going to have to stretch my 30-minute commute to 38 minutes... or otherwise sneak in some extra listening minutes so I can finish this one today!

BookwormAHN Great job 👏🏻 6y

I think this book would be great for students interested in wolves and fantasies about wolves. The children were raised by wolves, which I could see being a huge selling point for kids that were interested in reading this book. Also the contrast of the wolf like children vs. their caretaker who is royalty, adds an interesting twist to the overall story.

This story is about children who were seen as naughty. They were believed to be raised as wolves. But when Miss Penelope takes the children in, they behave more appropriately and get used to wearing human clothes. They even stopped howling at the moon! Although the children are behaving better, the children manage to ruin the Christmas ball almost destroying their house all together!

I finished this a few nights ago, waiting up for my newest NEPHEW to be born! Neither the baby or my relisten of this disappointed.

This was the first in the series I originally listened to and I liked it much more than the first (which I have come around to loving). Some great new characters are introduced and the mystery gets more and more twisty. And, as always, Katherine Kellgren is not to be missed.

This is especially true today! #24in48

Penelope arrived at Ashton Place to assume the role of governess only to discover her charges were found in the woods and have literally been raised by wolves. We follow their adventures as Penelope tries to teach the children manners, mathematics, Greek history, and protect them from a mysterious someone who seems determined to hunt them. The plot thickens and the questions multiply in the second installment of this series.
