A thrilling adventure in a world one step away from total subjugation by machines After long years of war, the United States has sued for peace, yielding to a brutal coalition of nations ruled by fascist machines. One quarter of the country is under foreign occupation. Manhattan has been annexed by a weird robot monarchy, and in Tennessee, a permanent peace is being delicately negotiated between the battered remnants of the U.S. government and an envoy of implacable machines. Canadian businessman Barry Simcoe arrives in occupied Chicago days before his hotel is attacked by a rogue war machine. In the aftermath, he meets a dedicated Russian medic with the occupying army, and 19 Black Winter, a badly damaged robot. Together they stumble on a machine conspiracy to unleash a horrific plagueand learn that the fabled American resistance is not as extinct as everyone believes. Simcoe races against time to prevent the extermination of all life on the continent . . . and uncover a secret that Americas machine conquerors are desperate to keep hidden.

Starting 2023 with one of my favorite books of the year, the rare stand alone novel that begs for a sequel. I recently found out that a sequel, The Ghosts of Navy Pier, is in the works. Yahh!!

Andrew65 Excellent choice, and good news about the sequel. 4mo
TheSpineView That is good news. I loved Robots Of Gotham and you are right, it needs a sequel. So many unanswered questions. 4mo

Unexpected good! Very realistic story line of events that could happen in the near future. It was fast paced and I loved the characters, human and robots. This could easily be a series because there were several of the subplots that were not wrapped up. I hope that the author will continue on with this. 4.5⭐️ Thanks @RamsFan1963 for the recommendation. It definitely was what I wanted to read. #ChunksterChallenge2023 @Amiable

RamsFan1963 I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I definitely agree, I hope the author continues the story in another book. 10mo

Enjoying a quite evening reading this chunkster. Thanks at @RamsFan1963 for the recommendation. Enjoying so far. You are right about the blurb, it doesn't do justice to the depth and breath of this book.

2/150 This book surprised me, I was expecting a traditional good humans vs evil robots story, but it was much more complex. After a brutal war, a third of the US is occupied by intelligent machines. Barry Simcoe, a businessman from Canada, comes to Chicago and becomes involved in a byzantine plot between human and machine forces over control of the city and outlying area. Barry is my favorite kind of character, the ordinary person thrust ⬇️⬇️

RamsFan1963 into an extraordinary situation, where they discover talents and courage they didn't know they possessed. Barry is an everyman hero whose just trying to help, which gets him into deeper and more harrowing places. The ending is left open for a possible sequel, I hope the author does one 1y

Audible‘s current sale. 🎉 I started with 11. Shaved it down to 7. Agonized!

I didn‘t get Jade War … The Gutter Prayer … The Actual Star for random reasons.

The 4 I bought are above …

It wasn‘t as good as past sales … they were all $7.99 … still that‘s better than a paperback and I don‘t own any of them … all are rated 4.5 - 5 ⭐️ & all are over 20 hours!

This is one of my fav all time books. It‘s up in my top 10. It‘s a man vs machine story with medical thriller mixed in. If you like that sorta science fiction type read, this is for you. It‘s not slow paced and has a lot of action and written very well.
