This second edition of John Frows Genre offers a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the area. Genre is a key means by which we categorize the many forms of literature and culture, but it is also much more than that: in talk and writing, in music and images, in film and television, genres actively generate and shape our knowledge of the world. Understanding genre as a dynamic process rather than a set of stable rules, this book explores: the relation of simple to complex genres the history of literary genre in theory the generic organisation of implied meanings the structuring of interpretation by genre the uses of genre in teaching. John Frows lucid exploration of this fascinating concept has become essential reading for students of literary and cultural studies, and the second edition expands on the original to take account of recent debates in genre theory and the emergence of digital genres.

#GratefulReads Difficult to state which is my one #preferredgenre to read, as I have a few, ranging from historical fiction, classics, Gothic to mystery, and I‘m trying to read across more genres. Thanks to Litsy, I‘ve been reading more outside my comfort zone, and participating in reading challenges and buddy reads over the years certainly helped. 👍❤️

Historical fiction, science non-fiction, fantasy

That was pretty easy honestly. I'd love to have sci-fi or biography but oh well.

bookcollecter I like genre experimentation especially speculative sci-fi with elements of horror and/or fantasy. Examples would include Dan Simmons, Paul Auster, Vonnegut, Anthony Burgess, Kathy Acker...etc 6y

Tex2Flo A year ago, I would have said murder mystery in a heartbeat. Now, through multiple bookclubs, I‘m leaning to contemporary literary fiction from the South. 6y

1. Romance
2. Erotica
3. Nonfiction

I do, once in a blue moon, read a romance, but I spent so many of my formative years reading nothing but romance that I‘m pretty burned out. As for erotica, romance is as porny as I want to get! I really NEED to read more nonfiction and there‘s some great nonfiction books out there—just so little time!

1️⃣ Horror
2️⃣ Comedy/Satire
3️⃣ Erotica

While I don‘t usually read these three genres, I have and will make exceptions upon the right premise or recommendation.
