Desolation Mountain: A Novel | 
pickThis was a tough read for me. It got into very technical political issues, and it required a lot of attention so that I didn‘t get lost. This doesn‘t mean it wasn‘t a good book. Every book I‘ve read by this author has been good. I didn‘t realize I was reading #17 in the series. It didn‘t matter. It was good as a stand alone book. I‘ll definitely be reading more of William Kent Krueger‘s books.
pickThis is #17 in the Cork O‘Connor series. While I‘ve read his standalone books, I think I‘ve only read 1 book of this series. Krueger does a great job letting you in wherever you pick up the series. As usual, he puts you squarely in the story, bringing you close through his descriptions of nature and the characters. This story involves a plane crash, a military takeover of the crash site, and domestic terrorism. A bit too close to home actually.

pickThis book was more interesting for character growth and a hint at a possible major change than for the plot, which involves a possible conspiracy. I enjoyed it. #audiowalk
Still enjoying this book, and it‘s interesting watching Steven‘s journey to manhood. I hate that white flower in the picture above the book cover. It‘s the only thing I can smell blooming before I see it, and it makes my eyes water and itch and my nose start running. 😣 #audiowalk
It was up in the 80s today, but it was still breezy, so I had a nice #audiowalk. Poor Steven! He‘s going through the young adult thing of wondering what kind of man he is, comparing himself to Cork and to his brother-in-law, Daniel. He‘s finding himself wanting; I‘m sure he‘ll eventually realize he‘s not wanting — he‘s just a different kind of man from them.
This Cork O‘Connor mystery revolves around a vision Steven has. Steven is 20 and in college; he was 5 or 6 when we first met him! Bo Thorsen, from The Devil‘s Bed, also shows up. It was extremely windy outside today. That tree in the bay was not there the day before yesterday; I guess yesterday‘s storm was strong enough to bring it there. #audiowalk
pickExciting plot and subplots that revolve delicately around the natural world of lakes and forests in northern Minnesota, coupled with the spirit and mystery of the Anishinabeg families - that‘s what makes this series so phenomenal.

pickMy husband bought me this for Mother‘s Day and I really enjoyed it. I believe this book is part of a series which I now plan to read more of. It wove in the spirit and beliefs of Natives in a really beautiful way.
My next book. 📖 I‘m almost caught up with this series - book 17!
pickI‘m a Kent Krueger fan, both for the characters and for the northern MN and Boundary Waters references to keep the environment and our connection to it alive. Also the current issues of mining and other environmentally harmful current topics. This book was one of the better ones in the Cork O‘Connor series.

Cork is good company on a sick day! This one was, as always, a thrilling read. Can‘t wait for the next one to come out.
pickThis is my #recentreadfromfavgenre which is mystery suspense. It is book 17 in the Cork O‘Connor series. If you haven‘t started this series, you should by reading book 1, Iron Lake. Krueger‘s writing beautifully captures a sense of place but with a powerful emotional punch. Believable characters well-drawn and excellent plots. Recommended for those who love mystery suspense.
