Luisa - Now and Then #1
Luisa - Now and Then #1 | Mariko Tamaki, Carole Maurel
11 posts | 12 read | 13 to read
At 32, Luisa encounters her 15-year-old self in this sentimental and bold story about self-acceptance and sexuality. PUBLICATION IN 1 VOLUME - COMPLETED WORK A disillusioned photographer has a chance encounter with her lost teenage self who has miraculously traveled into the future. Together, both women ultimately discover who they really are, finding the courage to live life by being true to themselves. Luisas sexuality is revealed to be a defining element of her identity, one which both of her selves must come to terms with. A time-traveling love story that turns coming-of-age conventions upside down, Luisa is a universal queer romance for the modern age.

What would it be like if your 15-year-old self showed up at your door when you're in your 30s? That's what Luisa discovers in this graphic novel exploring shifts in life goals over time and the process of recognizing your sexuality. I wish there had been more of an inciting event in the start (it becomes clear later but it felt kind of coincidental and downplayed). Loved the ending! #LGBTQ #Comic

I thoroughly enjoyed this graphic novel. The art was amazing, the plot was wonderful, and the ending was perfect. Many great themes were discussed in this book, including growing up, navigating careers, and finding identity.

Who wouldn‘t be irritated by meeting her teenaged self? In this #graphicnovel, the teen is just as irritated by her lonely, emotionally distant adult self. A time travel paradox with an evocative Parisian setting and expressive faces. Regrets, secrets, fear and shame: the damage we do to ourselves by repressing our true natures. Sweet, funny & touching. #Lesbian romance #LGBT #Translation

Ruthiella I would totally be annoyed by my teenage self! Oh the HORROR 😱 6y

The Paris setting, exteriors and interiors, are very nicely portrayed in warm tones. It contributes to the pleasures of this #lesbian love story #graphicnovel in #translation. #lgbtq

kspenmoll Lovely illustrations, 6y

15-year-old Luisa is not happy with her 33-year-old self in this time travel #graphicnovel. Meanwhile, adult Luisa notices a pop culture reference from the nineties: a pacifier worn as a necklace. She tells her younger self: “You‘d have to pay teens to wear that today!”

I‘m trying to catch up on reviewing the books I‘ve read over the past few days. Prepare to have your feed inundated.

queerbookreader I just read Luisa last week! 6y
Lindy @queerbookreader But I don‘t see any comments from you about it. Sometimes I get too wrapped up in my reading to post on Litsy. Is it like that for you? 6y
queerbookreader I only post about maybe a fifth of what I actually read. Posting about every book or comic I read would take a lot of time and energy 6y

gradcat This is silly, but I really like your mug....☕️😊 6y
Lindy @gradcat Thanks! It‘s my favourite mug and I‘ve had it many years. 🐄 6y
Lindy @queerbookreader True, it does take time and energy & occasionally I skip a lacklustre title. I find that posting about what I read helps cement them into my memory, plus I have notes to go back to when I blog about them or if they end up being book club picks. (I‘m in a lot of book clubs.) 6y

Finished up this graphic novel for #reversereadathon. What if your teenage self came to visit you? What would she think of your life now? What would you think of her? 🤔 #howiereads
