Suffer the Children
Suffer the Children | Craig DiLouie
On a grand canvas reminiscent of Guillermo del Torro and Justin Cronin, acclaimed author Craig DiLouie presents "a terrifying novel filled with impossible decisions [and] a stark, brutal, and chilling vision of the end of days" (David Moody, author of Hater). SO MANY MOUTHS TO FEED It begins on an ordinary day: children around the world are dying. All children, everywherea global crisis beyond any parents worst nightmare. Then, a miracle beyond imagining: three days later, they return. Shattered mothers and fathers see their sons and daughters happy and whole once more, playing and laughing as beforebut only when they feed. They hunger for bloodand they cant get enough upon which to feast. Without it, they die again. How far would you go to keep someone you love alive?

Although not my favorite by this author, this book definitely delivers a creepy, unforgettable story.

A sudden disease strikes killing children, but then the children start to come back. The book mostly looks at how far a parent will go to keep their child "alive."

Things are graphic, gross, and I couldn't stop reading. Perfect for fans of darker horror.

AnnR Gosh, this sounds horrifying. I don't think I could read it. Yikes! 13mo

How far would a parent go to save their child. Too far apparently. I would like to think we wouldn‘t take it this far, but as I am rapidly losing faith in this world probably this is exactly what would happen.

The nature of curse that befalls the children is never fully explained. The book itself is very creepy and disturbing to think about.

ReadingOver50 Yes I am 😄 that was my first thought but then I thought maybe you were referencing an author I hadn‘t heard of. 1y

This was quite scary, especially as an audiobook. Dead/undead children talking and moving around might be the creepiest thing I can think of. But, as a parent, wouldn‘t you do absolutely anything to keep your children “alive”? Where do you draw the line? Pretty graphic at times but I loved it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This story really got me ready for spooky season. All the children in the world die. Three days later they come back alive, and hungry for blood. If you were a parent what would you do for your thirsty child?

🎧 A tale of terror.

Finally.

😆

A few weeks before Christmas all pre-puberty children died. Then died again. And again.

Herod‘s Syndrome

Don‘t want to spoil it but be warned it‘s a bit scary. (Adult language & situations) ... a study of what a parent could turn into in order to keep their kid alive.

Brings new meaning to the word “farm”.

I hated Ramona from the get-go & soon everyone devolves into monster status. 🥺

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘m tired of the tortured parent who lost a child in an accident theme. And at 90 min. the premise is still being set up. I‘m bored, not scared. Surprised this was an Audie finalist. Moving on...

I listened to this on audio while fixing some furniture, it was pretty creepy and I liked it. It was a unique twist on the end of days story.

I moved to the Cleveland area last month. One of the first things I did was to go to the library and pick up a library card. I was pleased to learn that they use Overdrive! I went to borrow my first book and look at the amount of holds I can place 🤗😱🤓📚 I‘m used to the Los Angeles limit of 15 loans and 15 holds. This makes me beyond happy 😆 (Excuse the book.....it‘s Halloween season and I needed something extra scary!!)

Lovesbooks87 Wow! That's amazing! 6y
Andrew65 @Lovesbooks87 Wish I could say the same. We only get 8 loans and 5 holds! 6y
Ashley_Nicoletto My library does 10 holds and 3 loans and it‘s constant book shuffling to not have more than 3 on loan at once. 🙄🙄 6y
Crazeedi Wow that's awesome. I have cards to 2 libraries, one is 8 loans and 10 holds. The other is 6 loans and 8 holds 6y
Crazeedi I need to drive around my state and get some more library cards,😏 6y

This book is chilling, heartbreaking, gruesome, and I couldn‘t put it down. What these parents are willing to do to keep their children alive is horrific. DiLouie is a master of making apocalyptic events seem possible and therefore even more terrifying.

I went into this one blind after a recommendation from my sister and I‘m so glad I did. This is a fantastical, scientific thriller that kept me hooked from the beginning.

TW: this book contains description of child death, but it‘s not very graphic.

This was SUCH a fascinating concept and the more intimate look at the lives of the parents affected was a nice change of pace from the often glossed over outbreak stories you typically see, but I just wasn't blown away by it like I thought I would be. It was a bit plodding, and I didn't feel invested enough in the characters to compensate for the slowness.

Interesting premise but I didn't like any of the characters. The cover is the scariest thing about the book.

Talk about a unique book, this is one that is unrepeatable and doesn't compare to any book I have ever read. I've read this 3 times and captures me more and more each time. I'm typically not a big fan of anything in this genre or like this but I can't say enough good things about this book. Such an underrated book, I'd definitely recommend!!!
