2/5⭐ It's not a terrible book, but it is boring and surface level, especially in worldbuilding. I never felt invested. It contained a lot of introspection/infodumping/weak writing. Despite time moving, the plot moved sloooooooowly. The dynamic was basically "Denna/Mare feel helpless/above current events, someone threatens/insults the other spurring the first to explode in rage, they feel guilty," rinse/repeat.

This was a good ride. Didn't enjoy the angsty separation bit. Except our heroes got to grow and realise the difference between keeping someone close out of fear, and loving someone fiercely knowing you will be fine without them. You just don't want to be without them.

Just finished this book and my heart is bursting with love! This is a beautiful, magical tale of two princesses in love. Lots of political intrigue, magical powers, shapeshifters, and a dragon! It‘s a sequel, but I think it stands alone pretty well. ❤️

Sequel to Of Fire and Stars. This was an amazing read if not just because it surprised me - didn‘t know there was a sequel!! This follows Denna and Mare, soon after they commit to each other, as they part to discover more about themselves separately. One politics, one magic. It was amazing to read how both princesses changed and accepted how the other grew by the end. This was very refreshing between the romance and the way the plot thickens.

I‘m so excited to start this book! I absolutely loved the first one, it was exactly what teenage me would have loved. A cliched teen fantasy where the princesses fall in love with each other. It fed my soul and made me so happy, I can‘t wait to read the sequel!
