This book focuses on the 3 main battles for women: the right to education, the right to vote and the right to decide over our own body

During these battles Breen focuses on women that where important fighting for these rights ex. Millicent Fawcett, Emmeline Pankhurst, Ad Tahirih and Margaret Sanger

At the end there also a chapter LHBT rights and a chapter on Malala showing that the battles aren‘t won everywhere.

An illustration from the book that shows when different countries gave women the right to vote without conditions.

Well done New Zealand, first in the world
As a Norwegian, I‘m quite happy about Norway being no 4. 8 yrs after being an independent country

Amiable I‘m rather shocked by Switzerland! 5y
charl08 Great image. France always surprises me. 5y
Sisasuku @Amiable A friend from there told me that it was a public vote, so the male Swiss population had to be convinced that women should be allowed to vote. 5y

tournevis @Amiable @Sisasuku It's even worse than it looks, because 1971 was at the Federal level. The last restrictions at the Canton level were lifted in the 1980s. 5y

My #WeeklyForecast consists of three library books that are due in a couple of weeks and whatever audiobooks I feel inspired to listen to during my drive to and from work.

I‘m pretty sure I won‘t read both of the novels, but I might have a bit more reading time the next week than usual, so I‘m keeping my hopes up 🤞

Caterina We read the Penelopiad in undergrad the semester that we read the Odyssey in Greek! I really enjoyed what Atwood did with female characters who have very little voice in the original! 😊 It's also a super quick read as I remember. 👍 5y
Cinfhen I‘ve been curious about that Atwood!!! I‘ll be waiting to hear your thoughts 😁 5y

You guys must be so tired of seeing Ducks in every post I make (almost), and it shows up again on my tbr for #MrBrook1InAMillion.

Whenever I need a break from Ducks, I‘ll continue my audio of Educated. I thought I should start reading some nonfiction in November so I found a comic nonfiction about feminism and women‘s rights. The book has been published in both UK and US, one place translated it into the tagged, and the other Fearless Females

Well, that was great. An accessible, brief history of feminism in #graphicnovel format. I would love to see this read by all young people, especially young women, so they have an understanding of what has been overcome in order for us to have the rights we (in the west anyway) take for granted today. 👊👊👏🙌❤️

My 10yo son was whinging about being bored on this fine Sunday. He spotted the tagged book sitting by me, waiting to be read for book club tomorrow night.

Seeing it was in graphic format, he asked whether he could read it.

Watching him start to get engrossed in it & then tell me that it‘s all about women experiencing bad stuff was priceless.

If I had suggested he read it, he would probably have declined 😂👊🙌.

Freespirit That‘s great!! 6y
