Dee Williams's life changed in an instant, with a near-death experience in the aisle of her local grocery store. Diagnosed with a heart condition at age forty-one, she was all too suddenly reminded that life is short, time is precious, (…more)

Mehso-so

Dee‘s home didn‘t have plumbing and it had very little electricity (powered by solar panels). Because of this, she was unable to be completely independent, and lived in the backyard of a friend. Dee did help her friend (who had her own health issues) out quite a bit, as well. I felt like she was sort of a part-time roommate. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin There was a complaint where she needed to figure out a way the city would allow her to continue to live in her structure in a back yard. I listened to the audio and enjoyed listening to Dee‘s journey. 1y

I was able to read a book today, an actual book in print, and meet our newest family member. Lots of feelings ❤️ i‘m still trying to take it slow but I am very excited about where I am in my recovery and looking forward to reading again— audiobooks are nice but they take forever!

Amiable Congratulations! 4y

Boy, do I relate to Dee. just like her I feel more comfortable watching a YouTube video how to repair a weed eater than attending a baby shower. Just like her I have trouble asking for help. Just like her I worry about my carbon footprint and where things come from. Just like her, I feel both sorrow and relief from letting go of my things. She is a great writer. I love her similes.

Downsizing. What can you live without? How does unloading stuff make one feel? What would you keep? Why would someone choose to reside in 85 sq ft of living space?
Dee builds her own tiny house after suffering life threatening heart problems.

Reviewsbylola Wow, 85 square feet?!? That‘s ambitious! 6y
Traci1 My husband and daughter were watching a show about people who move into tiny homes, and I overheard them discussing how I could never do that because I wouldn't be able to get rid of my books. 6y
TheBookgeekFrau I need 85 sq. ft. just for my books 6y
Dolly @Reviewsbylola I was checking her out on the web and evidently 85 sq ft was too spacious- she moved into a 50 something sq footer 6y

Today's #riotgrams challenge is "Book and a Beverage." I picked this book up at Powell's in June and am excited to dig in today!

JoScho I totally want to do the tiny house thing when I retire. Gonna check this book out! 7y
librarypoweruser @JoScho Me too. Also in Portland you can stay in one for a few days! I think you can find them on AirBnB :) Might be fun to check out! 7y
JoScho It would be! I am in SC but I will have to see if they offer that here. We are already talking about making a change, moving to the country and downsizing in the next year or so. We are still like 15 years from retirement. I think of it as baby steps. Plus with 5 pets we just aren‘t tiny house ready right now. 7y
rubyslippersreads I would need a second tiny house just for my books. 😄 7y
