Prisoner of Night | J.R. Ward
21 posts | 19 read | 5 to read
From #1 New York Times bestselling author J.R. Ward comes an unforgettable story of passion and vengeance in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world. When Ahmares brother is abducted, there is nothing she wont do to get him back safely. She is unprepared, however, for the lengths she will have to go to save his life. Paired with a dangerous but enticing prisoner, she embarks on an odyssey into another world. Duran, betrayed by his father, imprisoned in a dungeon for decades, has survived only because of his thirst for vengeance. He has been biding his time to escape and is shocked to find an unlikely and temporary freedom in the form of a determined young female. Battling against deadly forces and facing unforeseen peril, the pair are in a race to save Ahmares brother. As time runs out, and the unthinkable looms, even true love may not be enough to carry them through.

I really enjoyed the story, but it pulled me entirely out of the story line of the main series. I really wish these stand alone novellas had been put in a series or sub series of their own so the momentum of the main series could continue unhindered. This literally has no tie to the rest of the series other than it‘s behind and ends in Caldwell, NY.

GingerAntics This was one of the better audiobooks because again the tracks are each chapter instead of the random 3-5 minute divisions. #jrward #BlackDaggerBrotherhood #PrisonerOfNight 2y

Another novella that honestly sounds like another stand alone story. At least this time I‘m going in prepared for that. The last one almost ended up a so-so because it felt so odd for the longest time.

Everyone! I need book choosing help!! I have a week vacation on a family island coming up (prime reading time), and I don‘t know what or how many to bring! This is my immediate TBR pile outside of book club picks! Help me choose!! 😄😄

SpiderGoddess I'm really loving the title "Witches, Sluts, and Feminists." 4y

Not really as connected to BDB as you think. Though it reminds me that there‘s been another - The Thief? Which was also not *really* connected but I think one of the main characters appeared in there. The start and end point are Caldwell so...fingers crossed. Bit of a flimsy plot. Bad guys I‘ve never heard of. Building to something else maybe? Ever the optimist 😉 📚📚

Enjoying this read ⚔🖤☠🤓, This was a short-story set in the black Dagger Brotherhood world, it wouldn't be one of my favourite but had some interesting links to the BDB books and I am wondering will we be seen this characters popping up in the BDB books

While not terrible, I did find myself occasionally getting bored and distracted. I‘d give this book a solid 3-3.5 out of 5. It‘s set in the BDB world with no BDB involvement. That‘s fine with me, but the plot line was just a bit thin, in my opinion. Honestly, the story really didn‘t need the BDB connection at all, except to maybe help sell it. Still, it‘s a quick and easy novella, just not a favorite of mine. #romance #vampires

elyseh This is one of my all time favorite series! 5y
danireads @elyseh mine too!!! I really love her earlier books in the series and hope she can find that voice again. I think she‘s doing a great job with the Legacy spin-off 5y

Insta-love, the romantic bits weren‘t convincing. The plot feels kind of thin and predictable. I was on an airplane, otherwise I never would‘ve finished. The book references a lot of wider plot points I assume were covered in previous books. The writing is okay, so if you‘re determined to read the series, make sure you get the first book.

Though I did enjoy this one overall, it's propably one of my least favourite of the series so far. A decent story but I just didn't get into it as much as I did with the others.

CoverToCoverGirl Doing a re-read of the entire series.. want everything to be fresh in time for 6y
WeeWeegieBookworm @CoverToCoverGirl great idea! been wanting to reread some of the earlier books for ages myself. I think I might have to reread John & Xhex's book before The Savior, since I can't remember much about Murhder. 🙈 6y
elyseh I loved it! I'm so excited for her next book! 6y

It's been a while since someone I know is reading the same thing as me. It's an odd but exciting feeling. I'm trying not to show my excited fangirl side though 🙈🙈

Slajaunie My daughter and I like the same kinds of books so I always have someone to talk to about my books. 6y

Another story from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, although the brotherhood wasn't in this one. Also, I thought it was a novella for some reason. It was shorter than her usual, but not that short.

nitalibrarian @elyseh I liked it! Great little peek into that world. Though it made me impatient for The Savior. 6y
