Princess Mera is teenage royalty and heir to the throne of Xebel, a penal colony ruled by the other no-so-lost land under the sea, Atlantis. Her father, his court, and the entire kingdom are expecting her to marry and introduce a new king. But Mera is destined to wear a different crown.... When the Xebellian military plots to overthrow Atlantis and break free of its oppressive regime, Mera seizes the opportunity to take control over her own destiny by assassinating Arthur Curry--the long-lost prince and heir to the kingdom of Atlantis. But her mission gets sidetracked when Mera and Arthur unexpectedly fall in love. Will Arthur Curry be the king at Mera's side, or will he die under her blade as she attempts to free her people from persecution? An astonishing story that explores duty, love, heroism and freedom, all through the eyes of readers' favorite undersea royalty. From New York Times best-selling author Danielle Paige (Dorothy Must Die) and artist Stephen Byrne comes a Mera and Aquaman origin story that explores Mera's first steps on land, and her first steps as a hero or villain, forcing her to choose to follow her heart or her mission to kill.

Always happy to read backstory of key characters, especially female ones that may have been introduced intially only as side characters to male leads. I don't have much background on Aquaman beyond the film, but thankfully the politics of the various kingdoms and important players was clearly laid out, yet it never felt too exposition heavy. 1/2

Robotswithpersonality The emphasis on the right to choose is a strange contrast to the state of being royalty and fated to rule, but the striving for change and peace among previously warring factions is way more appealing than epic action scenes. 2/2 2y

This was a good read. It‘s fun to take a break from traditional books and read a graphic novel every now and then. The illustrations and color scheme were outstanding. I definitely loved the storyline of it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love Mera anyways, and this graphic novel follows her as she figures out what she is willing to fight for. What she starts off wanting to do, killing Arthur, changes when she gets to know him. And I love how her character changes through the story to do so.

My boys and I are always up for (1) superhero stories (in text or film form!) and (2) good graphic novels. We've all three now enjoyed Danielle Paige's Mera: Tidebreaker, which offers a sort of origin story of Mera . . . totally aside from her depiction in the Aquaman movie (which is, I must admit, all I really knew about Mera AND Aquaman, aside from his appearances in Smallville).

I don't know why, but I have been loving the graphic novels recently. Thanks, Litsy family for making all kinds of suggestions.

This is a fantastic graphic novel with a strong female protagonist. Mera is strong-willed, confident, kind, and thinks for herself. The major theme running throughout the book is determining what it is you want. Mera must decide who she is and what/who she wants in life. It's a fast-paced read full of action and some romance. I also loved the color scheme and artistic aesthetic. #24in48 #graphicnovel #dcink #tidebreaker #mera

I'm a fan of the fins. So when tasked to read Manga, not my go to genre, I was elated to find this story. While Mera and Arthur are of the sea, it wasn't quite what I expected. Not bad, but not what I expected. Question for those who did read Mera, is it the prologue for the Aquaman movie?

P.S. Garage sale day 2: bust. No customers :(

Easytiger It is definitely not the prologue for the Aquaman movie.... I am a heavy heavy Aquaman fan and this story is a very different take on both of their mythology and story lines. You can definitely tell the author wanted to create her own version of the characters. 5y

City-wide garage sale and not many buyers. Lucky for me, I have plenty of books to read while we wait.

#bbrc #teenangst #new2019 So I liked this but now I want to get the next one in the story... but idk if it‘s out yet 📖😋 having fun already with this challenge @LibrarianRyan

LibrarianRyan Yeha. Next one is not out yet. It is on my TBR. I had a digital galley but it expired before I found time to read it. Soon. though. 5y
Clwojick @LibrarianRyan you should be able to find it online on https://readcomiconline.to/ I read all my graphics and comics on that site. Especially great for when your Netgalleys expire. 5y
Ddzmini @Clwojick thank you for the information now @LibrarianRyan and I can go read the next one 🙏📖😋 (edited) 5y
Clwojick and if not those ones, than definitely many others. 5y

I picked it up because it sounded like a lot of kick-butt fun seeing Mera take control of her own destiny. As that happens, I enjoyed it more & more. The beginning, however, felt like whiny set-up in a way that I don't normally feel about origin stories. I do think it's possible that this book could be leading into a really interesting story about Mera and Aquaman, but this itself was forgettable set-up to me.

#AprilTBR is less ambitious than it looks, considering I've already started 3 of these and I've got Spring Break in two weeks.

Merethebookgal A Murder is Announced is a fun one! And I can‘t wait to hear what you think about The Girl with the Red Balloon! 6y

This was very nicely done!! Should be satisfying to both established fans & new readers just encountering these characters.
